Thinking of a used Audi S5 Sportback? The two bills you will see every year are road tax and car insurance, and on this car both are sizeable. This page sets out those figures, the COE it needs, and what moves the insurance price.
As always, the insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price will follow your details.
The version we priced
The new-car list has no S5 Sportback on sale now, so there is no list price on this page. Our quote form lists it as the Audi S5 SPRTback, with a 2,995cc engine. All the figures below are for that car.
Two yearly bills
Road tax
Road tax goes by engine size. For 2,995cc, LTA's formula gives S$2,379.24 a year, before any surcharge. On this car, road tax costs more than the lowest insurance premium.
It climbs once the car passes 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page has the formula for other engines.
Car insurance
The Audi S5 Sportback price page prices one standard case:
- Car: S5 SPRTback, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
For that case, 9 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$1,238.58 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,597.00, which is S$1,358.42 more, or 110% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
In other words, the same driver can pay more than twice as much for the same car. Which insurer you pick matters more here than almost any detail you can change.
The excess on each plan
The excess is the amount you pay towards a claim. Most plans on this page, seven of them, carry S$600. Three carry S$800. Of the rest, one carries S$500, one S$2,500 and one nothing.
Look at the excess in the same moment you look at the premium. If a plan is cheaper by a little but its excess is far higher, one claim can wipe out the saving.
How the price responds to change
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes, all else the same:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,982.19, up S$743.61
- 20% NCD: S$1,982.19, up S$743.61
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,982.19, up S$743.61
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,238.58, unchanged
- New car, registered this year: S$1,275.73, up S$37.15
- Car 8 years old: S$1,133.23, down S$105.35
The NCD is what matters most. With none, the lowest price is 60% higher. A 20% NCD, or a younger driver with 30%, gives that same lowest price.
An older driver pays the same, with 8 insurers pricing that case. The car's age makes only a small difference. These are lowest prices; dearer plans may react differently.
If you might claim
A claim usually cuts your NCD. Since the NCD drives the price this much, ask how many steps one claim takes off. Ask too what an NCD protector would add, if it is offered.
The COE it needs
The price page's COE section says the 2,995cc engine is above 1,600cc. The S5 Sportback needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.
On a used car, the remaining COE life matters as much as the price. When it runs out, you either renew at the rate of the day or deregister. The COE page has the latest results.
Against similar cars
The price page sets six cars with engines of about the same size beside it, for the same driver and car age:
- BMW 730i: S$1,019.54
- BMW 730Li: S$1,019.54
- BMW 740i: S$1,019.54
- BMW 730d: S$1,019.54
- BMW 740d: S$1,019.54
- BMW 7 Series: S$1,030.55
Their average lowest price is S$1,021.38. The S5 Sportback costs 21% more, and all 6 are cheaper to insure. The 730d and 740d each have just 2 insurers pricing them, so treat those two figures with care. The Audi car insurance page covers other Audi models.
Costs that turn on your habits
We give no figures for these, since they depend on you:
- Parking: season parking at home, plus office, mall and street charges.
- Petrol: depends on how far you go and pump prices.
- ERP: depends on your routes and timing.
- Servicing and repairs: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery. On a used car, ask for the service history.
- Depreciation: the value lost depends on the price you pay, the COE life left and what the car later sells for.
