Audi A5 SPRTback in Singapore, the yearly costs and insurance

Yearly costs of an Audi A5 SPRTback in Singapore: road tax for the 1.8 TFSI, Category B COE and dated car insurance examples by driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

You will find the Audi A5 SPRTback on the used market rather than in showrooms. For a used car, the yearly bills matter as much as the asking price. This page gives the dated figures we hold for the A5 SPRTback: the COE, road tax and car insurance.

A note on the insurance prices: they are examples, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your own details will change them. Use them as a guide to how the costs work.

Three engines on the form

The new-car list has no A5 SPRTback on sale now, so there is no list price here. The quote form shows three versions:

  • A5 SPRTback 1.8 TFSI - Sedan: 1,798cc
  • A5 SPRTback 2.0 - Sedan: 1,984cc
  • A5 SPRTback 3.0 TDI: 2,967cc

The figures below are for the 1.8 TFSI - Sedan, the version most insurers quote. The engine size matters a lot here. Each step up raises the road tax, so check which engine the car you are looking at has.

The COE

The price page states that the 1.8 TFSI, with a 1,798cc engine above 1,600cc, needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

A used car's COE is already paid. The question is how long is left on it, since the asking price should reflect those years. If you plan to renew, the COE page has the latest results.

Road tax by engine

For the 1.8 TFSI's 1,798cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$975.16 a year, before any age surcharge. The 2.0 and 3.0 TDI versions pay more.

A surcharge applies once the car passes 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

On an older SPRTback, then, the yearly road tax can be well above the base figure. The road tax page works out the other engine sizes.

Car insurance for one example driver

The Audi A5 SPRTback price page prices this case:

  • Car: A5 SPRTback 1.8 TFSI - Sedan, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

14 insurers price it for that driver. The lowest premium is S$836.07 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$2,357.96. That is S$1,521.89 more, or 182% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That gap is unusually wide. The dearest lowest plan costs close to three times the lowest premium, for the same car and driver. A few prices on the page are estimates, so check each final figure on the insurer's own quote.

Excess

The excess is your share of any claim. Most plans for this car carry S$600, with others at S$500, S$750 or S$800. One asks S$2,500 and one has no excess. Compare the two together, not the premium alone.

How the lowest price reacts

The price page shows the lowest premium when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,319.46, S$483.39 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,319.46, S$483.39 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,319.46, S$483.39 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$836.07, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$861.03, S$24.96 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$764.82, S$71.25 less

Your NCD is the main lever. Without it, the lowest premium is 58% higher. A younger driver with a short record pays the same higher figure. An older driver pays no more than the example.

The car's age matters much less, and an 8-year-old car is S$71.25 cheaper at the lowest price. These are lowest prices only. Plans further up may react more or less.

Similar cars on the same terms

For the same driver and car age, the price page compares six cars:

Their average lowest price is S$741.89. The A5 SPRTback is 13% above it. Four of the six are cheaper to insure, while the E-Class and 5 Series cost more. More Audi models are on the Audi car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks a wider set.

Costs that depend on the owner

  • Parking: season parking at home, plus work and weekend parking.
  • Petrol or diesel: depends on the engine, your distance and pump prices.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and timings.
  • Upkeep: ask for the service history and what is due next. Older cars can need tyres, brakes, a battery or more.
  • Depreciation: set by what you pay and how many COE years remain when you sell.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
