Car insurance explained

Car insurance excess compared

The excess is what you pay towards each claim for damage to your own car. It varies a lot between insurers; here it is beside each one's price.

Prices as of 28 Oct 2026, GST included.

Every plan's excess shows on its card: compare car insurance with your own details.

Questions people ask

What is the excess on car insurance?

The first part of each own-damage claim that you pay yourself. With a S$600 excess and a S$2,000 repair, you pay S$600 and the insurer pays S$1,400. A windscreen claim usually has its own, smaller excess.

Does a lower excess cost more?

Often, but not always: compare the premium and the excess together. A plan with a high excess and a low premium suits a careful driver who would pay small repairs anyway; young, new or unnamed drivers often carry an extra excess.
