Why can electric cars cost more to insure?
The usual reasons given are repair costs (batteries, sensors and parts that fewer workshops handle) and higher car values. Fewer insurers quote some electric models online at all: see the insurer counts on each model's page.
Does an electric car need special insurance?
No separate policy, but check the electric-car cover: the battery, the charging cable and wallbox, and roadside help when the battery runs flat. Some insurers add these; others sell them as extras.
