An electric car changes some of the usual sums. There is no engine size, so the COE rule is set by the motor's power, and fuel becomes charging. For the Audi e-tron Electric, one cost stands out above the rest: car insurance. This page goes through what we can date for it.
The insurance figures are examples, read on 20 October 2026, for one stated driver and car. Your own premium depends on your details. Treat them as a guide to how the costs move.
The car on this page
The quote form has a single entry, the Audi e-tron Electric, and that is the car priced here. The new-car list has no e-tron Electric on sale now, so there is no list price, power figure or body type on this page. A buyer today will most likely be looking at a used one.
COE for an electric car
For a fully electric car, the COE category follows the motor's power. The price page states that the e-tron Electric needs a Category A COE if its motor is 110kW (147bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more powerful.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These change every round; the COE page has the latest. On a used car, the COE is already paid, so check how many years are left on it.
Road tax
We do not have a road tax figure for this car. Road tax on an electric car is not worked out from engine size, so the usual engine-based figure does not apply. The age surcharge does still apply to cars over 10 years old:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Check the yearly amount on the car's own records, or on the road tax page.
The insurance bill
The Audi e-tron Electric price page prices this case:
- Car: e-tron Electric, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
7 insurers price it for that driver, fewer than for most cars. The lowest premium is S$1,505.85 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is the dearest asks at least S$2,877.94, which is S$1,372.09 more, or 91% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So even the lowest figure is well above what many petrol cars cost to insure. With only a handful of insurers in the list, each one you check counts.
Excess on the plans
The excess is your share of each claim. Most e-tron plans carry S$600. One sits at S$900, one at S$2,500, and one has no excess. Look at it next to the premium, not after.
Where NCD matters most
The price page shows the lowest premium after one change:
- No NCD (0%): S$3,170.21, S$1,664.36 more
- 20% NCD: S$2,536.17, S$1,030.32 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$2,991.98, S$1,486.13 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,635.73, S$129.88 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$1,649.27, S$143.42 more
- A car 8 years old: S$1,376.78, S$129.07 less
For this car, the no-claim discount is worth a great deal. With no NCD, the lowest premium is 111% higher, more than double. Even 20% NCD leaves you S$1,030.32 a year above the example. A younger driver with three years' driving pays close to the no-NCD figure.
If you are moving to an e-tron from another car, check that your NCD carries over. That one detail can change the bill by S$1,664.36 at the lowest price. These are lowest prices only; dearer plans may move by different amounts.
Other electric cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page compares six electric cars:
- Tesla Model Y: S$1,147.48
- Tesla Model 3: S$1,093.31
- Hyundai Ioniq 5: S$954.21
- BYD M6: S$799.24
- BYD Atto 3: S$789.73
- BYD Dolphin: S$787.08
Their average lowest price is S$928.51. The e-tron Electric costs 62% more than that, and all six are cheaper to insure. More Audi models are on the Audi car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks a wider set.
Running costs that depend on you
- Charging: the cost depends on where you charge and the rate you pay. Check whether your HDB car park or condo has chargers nearby before you buy.
- Parking: season parking at home, plus parking at work and in town.
- ERP: depends on your routes and the times you drive.
- Servicing and the battery: ask what is left of any battery warranty on a used car, and what servicing it has had.
- Depreciation: set by what you pay and the COE years left when you sell.
