The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. They are not a quote.

What is on sale, and what we price

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 shows two versions, both petrol-electric with a 1,969cc engine:

  • XC90 Mild Hybrid B5 Ultra 7-seater MY25: 249bhp
  • XC90 Plug-in Hybrid T8 Ultra 7-Seater: 455bhp

Our quote form lists seven versions:

  • XC90 T5 Momentum: 1,969cc
  • XC90 T6 2.0: 1,969cc
  • XC90 D5: 2,400cc
  • XC90 2.5 T5: 2,521cc
  • XC90 T6 2.9: 2,922cc
  • XC90 3.2 R-Design: 3,192cc

The COE, road tax and insurance figures below are for the XC90 B5, the version most insurers quote. Quote the exact version you are buying.

List prices

As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:

  • Mild Hybrid B5 Ultra 7-seater MY25: S$470,000
  • Plug-in Hybrid T8 Ultra 7-Seater: S$540,000

These move with every COE round. When you compare offers, check what each one includes before you look at the totals.

COE

The price page states that the XC90 B5, with its 1,969cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page shows the latest.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$1,175.74 a year for the B5's 1,969cc engine, before any age surcharge.

Cars more than 10 years old pay a surcharge:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The versions with larger engines pay more. See the road tax page for each size.

Insurance for a family's main driver

The Volvo XC90 price page prices this case:

  • Car: XC90 B5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 14 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$931.07. The insurer whose lowest plan is highest asks at least S$1,589.39. That is S$658.32 more, or 71% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Two insurers on our panel have no online price for the XC90 yet.

Excess

The excess is your share of each claim. Ten plans here carry S$600. Others sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. Three ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000. One plan has none. Read it next to each premium.

How the price moves

With one detail changed and the rest held, the lowest price becomes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,404.73, S$473.66 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,404.73, S$473.66 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,404.73, S$473.66 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$931.07, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$957.09, S$26.02 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$836.07, S$95.00 less

Without a full NCD, the lowest price rises 51%. A driver aged 27 with 30% NCD lands on the same figure. A driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting.

An 8-year-old XC90 B5 is S$95.00 cheaper to insure at the lowest price. A new one costs S$26.02 more.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts.

If several people will drive it

With seven seats, an XC90 may be shared in a family. The page shows a driver aged 27 starting S$473.66 higher. Ask each insurer to quote with every regular driver named, so you see the true figure.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The XC90 is 7% above it. Four of the six cost less to insure: the E-Class, the 5 Series, the Voxy and the Harrier. The two Lexus models cost more. More Volvos are on the Volvo car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work, schools and malls.
  • Petrol or charging: the plug-in hybrid can be charged as well as filled. Your spend depends on mileage, pump prices and where you charge.
  • ERP: your routes and the times you drive them.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. On a hybrid, ask what the warranty covers.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later in its COE life.
