20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

This guide looks at the Volvo V40 Cross Country D2 on cost, and sets it beside six similar cars from its price page. It starts with the fixed costs, the COE and road tax. Then it covers insurance and how each rival compares.

The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote depends on your details.

The versions on our quote form

The new-car list has no entry for the V40 Cross Country on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here. The quote form lists three versions:

  • V40 Cross Country D2: 1,560cc
  • V40 Cross Country T4: 1,596cc
  • V40 Cross Country T4 2.0: 1,969cc

The figures below are for the D2, the version most insurers quote.

COE and road tax

The price page states that the D2, with its 1,560cc engine, needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more. The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page has the latest.

LTA's formula gives road tax of S$719.44 a year for the 1,560cc engine, before any age surcharge. Cars past 10 years pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the T4 and T4 2.0 figures.

Insurance for the standard driver

The Volvo V40 Cross Country price page prices this case:

  • Car: V40 Cross Country D2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 14 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$764.82. The insurer whose lowest plan sits highest asks at least S$1,673.14, which is S$908.32 more, or 119% on top. All prices include 9% GST. Two insurers on our panel have no online price for it yet.

The excess on most plans is S$600. The range runs from S$0 on one plan to S$3,000 on another, with two at S$2,500. Check it beside every premium.

When the details change

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,098.76, S$333.94 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$333.94 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,098.76, S$333.94 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$764.82, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$787.96, S$23.14 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$700.28, S$64.54 less

Without a full NCD, the lowest price rises 44%. A driver aged 27 pays the same. An older driver pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting. Car age moves the price only a little. These are lowest prices only.
