Volvo S80L in Singapore, road tax and insurance from a short list

The Volvo S80L 2.0T in Singapore: S$1,210.92 road tax, a Category B COE and insurance from the 8 insurers that price it online, with low excesses.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Volvo S80L is a car with few online insurance quotes. Only eight insurers price it, and eight on our panel do not. The plans that are on offer all keep the excess at S$800 or less. This guide covers that, plus the COE, road tax and the costs that depend on you.

The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote depends on your details.

S80L versions on the form

The new-car list has no entry for the S80L on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. The quote form lists three versions:

  • S80L 2.0T: 1,999cc
  • S80L 2.5T: 2,521cc
  • S80L 3.0 T6: 2,953cc

The figures below are for the 2.0T, the version most insurers quote. The 2.5T and 3.0 T6 have larger engines, so they pay more road tax.

COE

The price page states that the S80L 2.0T, with its 1,999cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE. That category closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

The COE page has the latest. On a registered car, ask for the COE end date. It sets how long the car can stay on the road before renewal.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$1,210.92 a year for a 1,999cc engine, before any age surcharge.

A surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For the 2.5T and 3.0 T6, see the road tax page.

Insurance: a short list

The Volvo S80L price page prices this case:

  • Car: S80L 2.0T, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 8 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$886.61. The insurer whose lowest plan is highest asks at least S$1,539.72. That is S$653.11 more, or 74% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Eight insurers on our panel have no online price for the S80L. Seven have none yet, and one does not list the model on its online quote. If you already deal with one of them, ask it for a quote directly. That widens the field.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. On this car, every plan keeps it at S$800 or less. Six plans carry S$600, three S$800 and one S$500. One plan has none. So you can compare premiums here without a very large excess hiding behind a low price.

How the premium moves

With one detail changed and the rest held, the lowest price becomes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,154.84, S$268.23 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,154.84, S$268.23 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,154.84, S$268.23 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$886.61, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$931.07, S$44.46 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$811.71, S$74.90 less

Without a full NCD, the lowest price rises 30%. A driver aged 27 lands on the same figure. A driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard driver, but only seven insurers quote that case.

An older S80L is cheaper to insure. The 8-year-old car starts S$74.90 lower than the 3-year-old one. A new one would start S$44.46 higher, with seven insurers quoting.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts, so ask each insurer to quote the case that fits your own household.
