On cost, the Volvo V90 T5 Momentum is a car where the driver matters. For the standard driver, insurance starts at S$973.95. A driver without a full NCD starts S$454.24 higher, and a driver aged 65 pays more too. This guide sets out who pays what, along with the COE, road tax and the costs that depend on you.

All insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote depends on your details.

The V90 versions

The new-car list has no entry for the V90 on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. The quote form lists two versions, both with a 1,969cc engine:

  • V90 T5 Momentum
  • V90 T6 R-DESIGN

The figures below are for the T5 Momentum, the version most insurers quote. The two share an engine size, so the road tax below applies to both.

COE

The price page states that the V90 T5 Momentum, with its 1,969cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

The COE page shows the latest round. On a registered car, check the COE end date before you agree a price.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$1,175.74 a year for a 1,969cc engine, before any age surcharge.

From 10 years on, the surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Insurance for a family's main driver

The Volvo V90 price page prices this case:

  • Car: V90 T5 Momentum, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 14 insurers give a price. The lowest premium is S$973.95. The insurer whose lowest plan is highest asks at least S$1,930.78. That is S$956.83 more, or 98% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Two insurers on our panel have no online price. One has none for this model yet, and the other does not list the model on its online quote.

The gap between insurers is larger than any change in the driver's details on this page. So whoever the main driver is, getting several quotes is the first step. Ask for each one on the same terms, so you compare like with like.

The excess

The excess is your share of each claim. The lowest premium here comes with a S$2,500 excess. Ten plans carry S$600. Three sit at S$500 and three at S$800. Two more ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000. One plan has none. Weigh the premium against the excess on every quote.

Who pays what

With one detail changed and the rest held, the price page shows:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,428.19, S$454.24 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,428.19, S$454.24 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,428.19, S$454.24 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,147.14, S$173.19 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$944.11, S$29.84 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$930.61, S$43.34 less

Young drivers

A driver aged 27 with 30% NCD starts at S$1,428.19. That is 47% above the standard driver, the same as a driver with no NCD.

Drivers without a full NCD

With no NCD or a 20% NCD, the floor is also S$1,428.19. So a full 50% NCD is worth S$454.24 a year here at the lowest price.

Older drivers

A driver aged 65 pays S$173.19 more, and one fewer insurer quotes that case.

Newer and older cars

Both a new V90 and an 8-year-old one start below the 3-year-old car on the page. Car age matters much less than the driver.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The V90 is 12% above it, and all six cost less to insure. More Volvos are on the Volvo car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Fuel: your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and the times you drive them.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. Ask what any remaining warranty covers.
