20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Owning a Volvo V70 in Singapore comes with two fixed yearly bills: road tax and car insurance. For the V70 2.0T, the version most of our insurers quote, road tax is S$1,210.92 a year. Insurance for a settled driver starts at S$973.95. This guide explains both, along with the COE and the costs that depend on you.

The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. They are not a quote.

V70 versions on our quote form

The new-car list has no entry for the V70 on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. The quote form lists four versions:

  • V70 2.0T: 1,999cc
  • V70 2.3 T5 (A): 2,319cc
  • V70 2.5FT: 2,521cc
  • V70 3.0 T6: 2,953cc

The figures below are for the 2.0T. The others have larger engines, so they pay more road tax.

COE

The price page states that the V70 2.0T, with its 1,999cc engine, is above 1,600cc. It needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

The COE page has the latest. On a registered car, check when the COE runs out. That date sets how long you can keep the car on the road as it is.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$1,210.92 a year for a 1,999cc engine, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies once the car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Find the larger versions' figures on the road tax page.

Insurance for the standard driver

The Volvo V70 price page prices this case:

  • Car: V70 2.0T, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver:

  • Insurers that price it: 13
  • Lowest premium: S$973.95
  • Highest of the insurers' lowest plans: S$1,756.25
  • Gap: S$782.30, or 80% more

All prices include 9% GST. Three insurers on our panel have no online price for the V70 yet.

The gap between insurers is far larger than the S$312.69 that losing an NCD would add. So for a settled driver, the insurer you pick moves this bill more than anything else on the page. If you already deal with one of the three missing insurers, ask it for a direct quote too.

The excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. The lowest premium here comes with a S$2,500 excess. Nine plans carry S$600. Others sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. Two more plans ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000. One plan has none.

So the lowest premium may not be the lowest cost if you claim. Compare it with the plans that carry a S$600 excess.

How the premium moves

With one detail changed and the rest held, the lowest price becomes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,286.64, S$312.69 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,286.64, S$312.69 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,286.64, S$312.69 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,113.55, S$139.60 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$944.11, S$29.84 less
  • A car 8 years old: S$930.61, S$43.34 less

Without a full NCD, the lowest price rises 32%. A driver aged 27 with 30% NCD lands on the same figure. A driver aged 65 pays S$139.60 more, with one fewer insurer quoting.

On car age, both a new V70 and an 8-year-old one start below the 3-year-old car on the page.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts.

What to check on a plan

  • Excess: for the main driver, and for any younger named driver.
  • Workshop: these prices assume an authorised workshop.
  • NCD protection: whether it is offered and what it adds.
  • Older drivers: if the main driver is 65 or more, ask for that exact quote.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The V70 is 12% above it, and all six cost less to insure. The two Lexus models come closest. More Volvos are on the Volvo car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and the times you drive them.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. Ask for the service history.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later in its COE life.
