20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Volkswagen Touran comes in four engine sizes on our quote form. The 1.2, which most insurers quote, keeps road tax low at S$506.54 a year. Its insurance for a family's main driver starts at S$690.06. This guide goes through each cost and what changes it.

The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. They are not a quote.

Touran versions on the form

The new-car list has no entry for the Touran on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. The quote form lists:

  • Touran 1.2: 1,197cc
  • Touran 1.4 TSI: 1,389cc
  • Touran 1.6: 1,594cc
  • Touran 2.0: 1,984cc

The figures below are for the 1.2. The larger engines pay more road tax, and their insurance prices differ, so quote your own version by name.

COE

The price page states that the Touran 1.2, with its 1,197cc engine, needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs a Category B COE.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page has the latest round.

Road tax

For the 1,197cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$506.54 a year before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For the 1.4 TSI, 1.6 or 2.0, see the road tax page.

Insurance for a family's main driver

The Volkswagen Touran price page prices this case:

  • Car: Touran 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that driver, 11 insurers price the Touran. The lowest premium is S$690.06. The insurer whose lowest plan is highest asks at least S$1,288.61. That is S$598.55 more, or 87% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Five insurers on our panel have no online price. Four have none for this model yet, and one does not list it on its online quote. With a smaller field, ask any of those five directly if you already deal with one.

Excess

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. Every plan on this page carries one. Ten are at S$600, two at S$500 and three at S$800. Two ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000. Read the excess on each quote along with the premium.

How the price changes for the rest of the family

The price page shows the lowest price with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,030.10, S$340.04 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,030.10, S$340.04 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,030.10, S$340.04 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$754.05, S$63.99 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$710.76, S$20.70 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$650.45, S$39.61 less

A younger driver

A driver aged 27 with 30% NCD starts at S$1,030.10. That is 49% above the standard driver's floor, the same as a driver with no NCD.

A grandparent as main driver

A driver aged 65 pays S$63.99 more at the lowest price, and only ten insurers quote that case.

An older or newer car

A new Touran costs S$20.70 more to insure at the lowest price. An 8-year-old one costs S$39.61 less.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists:

Their average lowest price is S$688.21, and the Touran costs about the same. Three of the six are cheaper to insure: the Toyota C-HR, the Nissan Qashqai and the Honda Jazz / Fit. The three Mercedes-Benz models cost more. Other Volkswagens are on the Volkswagen car insurance page.

Questions to ask yourself

  • Who will drive it most? Name the main driver honestly, since the NCD and age shape the price.
  • Which engine is it? The four versions are taxed and priced differently.
  • How long is left on the COE? It sets how long you can keep the car.
  • What excess can you carry? Some plans ask S$2,500 or more.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at schools, work and malls.
  • Petrol: your mileage and pump prices.
  • ERP: your routes and the times you drive them.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years.
  • Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later in its COE life.

Summary of yearly costs we can show
