The Volkswagen Jetta comes in several versions on our quote form, and most of them share a 1,390cc engine. That gives it a moderate road tax. The insurance picture is less simple: the spread between insurers is wide, and so is the jump for a driver without an NCD. This guide goes through each cost.
The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote will depend on your details.
Jetta versions on our quote form
The new-car list has no entry for the Jetta on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. The quote form lists six versions:
- Jetta 1.4 TSI: 1,390cc
- Jetta 1.4 TSI SPRT: 1,390cc
- JETTA GP 1.4 TSI 90 A/T HL HID: 1,390cc
- JETTA GP 1.4 TSI 90 A/T TL: 1,390cc
- Jetta 1.6: 1,595cc
- Jetta 2.0 TFSI: 1,984cc
The insurance figures below are for the 1.4 TSI, the version most insurers quote. The four 1.4 versions share an engine size, so the road tax below applies to each of them. Insurance can still differ by version.
COE rule
The price page states that the Jetta 1.4 TSI, with a 1,390cc engine, needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if its power is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page shows the latest round.
Road tax
For the 1,390cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$619.74 a year, before any age surcharge.
Cars past 10 years pay a surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
For the 1.6 or the 2.0 TFSI, look up the engine size on the road tax page.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Volkswagen Jetta price page prices this case:
- Car: Jetta 1.4 TSI, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
For that driver, 15 insurers price the Jetta, and only one on our panel has no online price for it yet. The lowest premium is S$700.28. The insurer whose lowest plan sits highest asks at least S$1,794.47. That is S$1,094.19 more, or 156% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
The gap is bigger than the lowest premium itself. So it pays to see several quotes before you renew.
Excess
The excess is what you pay on each claim. Ten plans here carry S$600. Others sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. Three ask S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has none. Put the excess next to each premium when you compare.
How each driver fares
The price page holds everything but one detail and shows the lowest price:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,336.79, S$636.51 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,319.64, S$619.36 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,074.20, S$373.92 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$700.28, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$678.67, S$21.61 less
- A car 8 years old: S$642.42, S$57.86 less
Young drivers
A driver aged 27 with 30% NCD starts at S$1,319.64. That is close to the no-NCD figure. If a younger family member will be the main driver, price that case first.
Drivers without a full NCD
With no NCD, the lowest price is 91% higher. A 20% NCD trims the jump to S$373.92. Your full 50% NCD is worth S$636.51 a year here at the lowest price.
Older drivers
A driver aged 65 pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting.
The car's age
Both a new Jetta and an 8-year-old one start lower than the 3-year-old car on the page. So car age is not what pushes this premium up.
These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page gives:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Jetta is 5% below it. Three of the six cost less to insure: the Toyota Sienta, the Toyota Corolla Altis and the Honda Freed. Other Volkswagens are on the Volkswagen car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
- Petrol: your mileage and pump prices.
- ERP: your routes and the times you drive.
- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. Ask for the service record.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later, which depends on the COE left.
