20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Volkswagen Polo SPRT 1.2 TSI DSG has a small engine and a small road tax bill. Its insurance for a settled driver starts at S$660.69. This guide looks at each cost on its own, from the COE to the costs that depend on you, and at how the insurance price shifts with the driver.

All insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote depends on your details.

The Polo SPRT on our quote form

The new-car list has no entry for the Polo SPRT on sale now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type. The quote form prices the Polo SPRT 1.2 TSI DSG, with a 1,190cc engine. All figures below are for it.

COE

The price page states the rule for this version. With its 1,190cc engine, it needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs a Category B COE.

The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B. The COE page shows the latest round.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives S$502.44 a year for a 1,190cc engine, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page covers every engine size.

Insurance for the standard driver

The Volkswagen Polo SPRT price page prices this case:

  • Car: Polo SPRT 1.2 TSI DSG, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

That driver gets prices from 13 insurers:

  • Lowest premium: S$660.69
  • Highest of the insurers' lowest plans: S$1,655.40
  • Gap: S$994.71, or 151% more

All prices include 9% GST. Three insurers on our panel have no online price for the Polo SPRT yet.

The gap is bigger than the lowest premium. So the insurer you pick makes a large difference to the yearly bill.

Excess

The excess is what you pay on each claim. Every plan on this page is at S$800 or less. Ten carry S$600, three S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One plan has none. So you can compare premiums here without a very large excess hiding behind a low price.

How the price shifts

With one detail changed and the rest held, the lowest price becomes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,072.12, S$411.43 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,072.12, S$411.43 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,072.12, S$411.43 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$660.69, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$666.79, S$6.10 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$604.07, S$56.62 less

Without a full NCD, the lowest price rises 62%. A driver aged 27 with 30% NCD lands on the same figure. An older driver pays the same as the standard driver.

Car age barely moves the lowest price. A new Polo SPRT costs S$6.10 more, and an 8-year-old one S$56.62 less.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by other amounts, and one fewer insurer quotes some cases.

What to check on a plan

  • Workshop: these prices assume repairs at an authorised workshop.
  • Excess for young drivers: whether a younger or newer driver pays a higher excess.
  • NCD protection: whether it is offered, and what it adds to the premium.
  • Named drivers: who else may drive the car under the policy.

Costs that depend on you

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
  • Petrol: your mileage and pump prices.
  • ERP: your routes and the times you drive them.
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. Ask for the service record.
