If you are thinking about a Volkswagen Passat CC, this guide puts its yearly costs side by side. It starts with the COE and road tax, which the engine fixes. Then it turns to insurance, where the insurer you pick, and the driver you name, change the bill the most.
The insurance figures are examples read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and car. Your own quote depends on your details.
Three versions on our quote form
The new-car list has no entry for the Passat CC on sale now, so there is no list price, power or body type here. The quote form lists three versions:
- Passat CC 1.8 TSI: 1,798cc
- Passat CC 2.0 SPRT TSI (A): 1,987cc
- Passat CC 2.0 TDI: 1,968cc
The figures below are for the 1.8 TSI, the version most insurers quote. The two 2.0 versions have larger engines, so their road tax and premiums differ.
COE category
The price page states that the Passat CC 1.8 TSI, with its 1,798cc engine, is above 1,600cc and needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.
The COE page has the latest round. On a registered car, the years left on the COE shape what the car is worth to you.
Road tax
For a 1,798cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$975.16 a year, before any age surcharge.
After 10 years, a surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
For the 2.0 versions, look up the engine size on the road tax page.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Volkswagen Passat CC price page prices this case:
- Car: Passat CC 1.8 TSI, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
For that driver:
- 13 insurers give a price
- S$861.03 is the lowest premium
- S$2,077.81 is the least the insurer with the highest lowest plan asks
- S$1,216.78 is the difference, or 141% on top
All prices include 9% GST. Three insurers on our panel have no online price. Two have none for this model yet, and one does not quote the model online.
What the excess adds
The excess is the part of a claim you pay. Ten plans here carry S$600. A few sit at S$500, S$750 or S$800. Two ask S$2,500 and one asks S$3,000, while one plan has none. Check the excess on each quote, not only the premium.
What moves the price
With one detail changed and the rest held, the lowest price becomes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,228.69, S$367.66 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,228.69, S$367.66 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,228.69, S$367.66 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$861.03, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$886.61, S$25.58 more
- A car 8 years old: S$787.96, S$73.07 less
The NCD carries the most weight. Without a full one, the lowest price rises 43%. A driver aged 27 with 30% NCD pays the same figure.
An older driver pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting. An 8-year-old Passat CC costs S$73.07 less to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one. A new one costs a little more.
These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.
Pros and cons on insurance cost
- For: an older driver keeps the standard driver's lowest price.
- For: an older car is cheaper to insure at the lowest price.
- Against: four of six similar cars cost less to insure.
- Against: a driver without a full NCD pays S$367.66 more at the lowest price.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page lists:
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42

Their average lowest price is S$741.89. The Passat CC sits 16% above it. Four of the six cost less to insure. The E-Class and the 5 Series match it exactly, at S$861.03. Other Volkswagens are on the Volkswagen car insurance page.
Questions to ask yourself
- Who will be the main driver? The NCD moves this premium more than anything else on the page.
- How long is left on the COE? It decides how long you can use the car.
- Which version is it? The 1.8 TSI and the 2.0 versions are priced separately.
- What excess can you carry? Some plans ask S$2,500 or more.
Costs that depend on you
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when out.
- Fuel: your mileage and the pump price.
- ERP: your routes and the hours you drive.
- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. Ask for the service history.
- Depreciation: what you pay against what the car fetches later in its COE life.
