Who the Subaru XV suits on cost in Singapore, from NCD to road tax

The Subaru XV 2.0 judged on cost in Singapore: road tax, its COE category and car insurance for a settled, a young, a new and an older driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Here is the verdict first. On the figures, the Subaru XV 2.0 is a car whose insurance cost depends heavily on your no-claim discount. A driver with a full NCD pays a mid-range premium. A driver without one can pay close to double. Road tax is fixed by its 2.0-litre class engine.

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 had no XV on sale, so there is no list price here. Every premium is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026.

The XV on our quote form

Our quote form lists two XVs:

  • XV 1.6 CVT: 1,600cc
  • XV 2.0 CVT: 1,995cc

The figures below are for the XV 2.0 CVT. It is the version most of our insurers price.

The reasons, in figures

  • Road tax: S$1,206.24 a year for the 1,995cc engine
  • COE: Category B, at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$882.31 a year
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,724.85, 95% more

Each is explained below.

Who it suits on cost

A settled driver with a full NCD. The Subaru XV price page prices one case. The driver is 40, married, in an office job, and has driven for 10 to 19 years. The record shows a 50% NCD and no claims. The car is 3 years old, on comprehensive cover, with repairs at an authorised workshop.

For that driver, 14 insurers price the XV. The lowest premium is S$882.31. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,585.57. That is S$703.26 more, or 80% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

An older driver. At 65, with 20 or more years of driving, the lowest price is S$931.07. That is S$48.76 more than the standard case.

Someone keeping the car longer. An 8-year-old XV has a lowest price of S$836.07, S$46.24 less than a 3-year-old one.

Who may pay more

A driver with no NCD. The lowest price rises to S$1,724.85, S$842.54 more. This is the biggest change on the price page.

A driver with a 20% NCD. The lowest price is S$1,380.72, S$498.41 more.

A younger driver. A 27-year-old with 3 years' driving and a 30% NCD has a lowest price of S$1,577.72. That is S$695.41 more.

A new car. One registered this year has a lowest price of S$908.86, S$26.55 more.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans can move by more or less. For this car, the NCD steps are large, so check how a claim would affect yours.

The excess and the plans

On the XV's price page, excesses run from S$0 to S$3,000. Most plans carry S$500, S$600 or S$750. A few carry S$2,500 or S$3,000.

Several insurers also price more than one tier. The tiers carry names like collision only, lite, standard, premium or prestige. Before paying for a higher tier, check what it adds.

Two insurers on our panel have no online price for the XV yet.

Road tax

For the 1,995cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,206.24 a year, before any age surcharge. It was checked on 2026-10-19.

If you keep the car past 10 years, the surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The 1.6 has a smaller engine and a different figure. Look it up on the road tax page.

The COE

The price page says the XV 2.0 CVT, with a 1,995cc engine above 1,600cc, needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. A used XV carries the COE it was registered with until it expires. The COE page has later results.

How it compares with similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page lists six similar cars:

Their average is S$867.25. The XV is 2% above it. Four of the six are cheaper to insure, and the two Lexus models are dearer. Other models from the make are on the Subaru car insurance page.

Questions to ask yourself

  • What is your NCD today? For the XV, it moves the price more than any other detail here.
  • Will anyone younger drive it? A young main driver lifts the lowest price by hundreds of dollars.
  • How long will you keep it? Road tax rises after 10 years, while insurance fell with car age in these figures.
  • Where will you park? HDB and condo season parking rates vary.
  • How far will you drive? Petrol and ERP depend on your distance, routes and timing.
  • What servicing will it need? Follow the maker's schedule, and ask for the records on a used car.
  • What will it be worth later? Depreciation depends on the price you pay and the COE years left.
