Subaru Legacy Outback, Singapore costs from road tax to cover

The Subaru Legacy Outback in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax for its 2.5-litre engine and dated car insurance prices for several drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

You will find the Subaru Legacy Outback on the used market rather than in showrooms. This page is for anyone weighing one up in Singapore. It works through the COE, road tax and car insurance, with dated figures.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. Your own quote rests on your age, record and car.

Versions we can price

The new-car list has no Legacy Outback on sale, so there is no list price, power or body type to give. Our quote form lists two versions, both with a 2,457cc engine:

  • Legacy Outback 2.5 XT
  • Legacy Outback 2.5i

We priced the 2.5 XT, the version most of our insurers quote.

COE

With a 2,457cc engine, above 1,600cc, the Legacy Outback 2.5 XT needs a Category B COE. That category closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

For a used car, the COE is already paid and priced in. What matters is the time left on it. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax is the big yearly item

LTA's formula gives S$1,748.16 a year for the 2,457cc engine, before any age surcharge. That is more than this car's lowest insurance price in the standard case below.

Older cars pay a surcharge on top:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

On a larger engine, each step adds a fair sum. Check the car's registration date. The road tax page covers other engines.

Car insurance for the standard driver

The Subaru Legacy Outback price page prices one case at every insurer:

  • Car: Legacy Outback 2.5 XT, registered 3 years ago, private use
  • Cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop repairs, no options
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years' driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims

14 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$853.44 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,734.51. That is S$881.07 more, or 103% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

In other words, one quote can be more than twice another for the same driver and car. Two insurers have no online price for this model.

Several insurers offer more than one plan, so the page shows more prices than insurers. Plans from the same insurer can differ in cover, such as add-ons and workshop choice. Look at what each plan includes before you compare prices.

Check each plan's excess

The excess is what you pay on a claim before the insurer pays. On this page it ranges from S$0 to S$2,500, and most plans carry S$600. Some carry S$500, S$750 or S$800.

A plan with a higher excess can look better on premium alone. Read both figures before you compare.

Prices marked as estimates come from an insurer's rate table. One price includes a promo code, as the price page shows.

How the premium responds

The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,057.66, S$204.22 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,057.66, S$204.22 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,057.66, S$204.22 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$932.63, S$79.19 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$879.11, S$25.67 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$812.33, S$41.11 less

No NCD raises the lowest price by 24%. That is the largest change, and the younger driver and 20% NCD cost the same.

The older driver and a new car each add a little. The 8-year-old car costs a little less.

These are lowest prices only. Plans further up the list may move by more or less. If your own details differ in more than one way, the changes can add up, so get a full quote.

Similar cars on the price page

Six cars of similar engine size, priced for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The Legacy Outback costs 4% less than that. Four of the six are cheaper to insure.

Costs we cannot put a number on

These depend on how you use the car:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus work and town.
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and when you travel.
  • Maintenance: servicing to the maker's schedule, with tyres, brakes and a battery in time. Ask for the service history.
  • Depreciation: the value lost until you sell the car or the COE ends.
