What a used Subaru Legacy costs to keep and insure in Singapore

Subaru Legacy costs in Singapore: the versions on our quote form, Category B COE, road tax and dated car insurance prices for several drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Subaru Legacy is not on the new-car list now, so you are most likely costing out a used one. This page puts figures on the yearly bills we can show. It goes through the COE, road tax and car insurance in turn.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They let you compare. They are not a quote, and your own price depends on your details.

Legacy versions on the quote form

There is no new-car list entry, so we give no list price, power or body type. Our quote form lists eight versions:

  • Legacy 2.0: 1,992cc
  • Legacy 2.0 GT AWD S and 2.0 Wagon: 1,994cc
  • Legacy 2.5: 2,455cc
  • Legacy 2.5 GT B Wagon, 2.5 Wagon and B4 2.5: 2,457cc
  • Legacy 3.0 R: 2,998cc

The figures below are for the Legacy 2.0 (1,992cc), the version most of our insurers quote. The 2.5 and 3.0 versions have bigger engines and pay more road tax.

COE for the 2.0

The price page states the COE for the Legacy 2.0. With a 1,992cc engine, above 1,600cc, it needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

On a used car, the COE has been paid already. Find out how many years it has left. The COE page shows recent rounds if you plan to renew.

Road tax

LTA's formula puts road tax for the 1,992cc engine at S$1,202.72 a year, before any age surcharge.

Many Legacys for sale will be older cars, so check the surcharge. It starts after 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the figures for other engine sizes.

Insurance: one standard driver

The Subaru Legacy price page prices this case at every insurer:

  • Car: Legacy 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use
  • Cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop, no options
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years' driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims

14 insurers give a price. The lowest is S$853.44 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,585.57. That is S$732.13 more, or 86% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

So the same driver could pay close to double, depending on the insurer. Only two insurers have no online price for this model.

Several insurers list more than one plan. Plans from one insurer can differ in what they cover as well as in price.

Excess, plan by plan

The excess is the amount you pay towards each claim. On this page it runs from S$0 to S$3,000. Most plans carry S$600. Others carry S$500, S$800 or S$2,500.

A higher excess can sit beside a lower premium. If you claim, you pay that excess first. Weigh the two figures together, and think about how often you expect to claim.

Prices marked as estimates come from an insurer's rate table.

When the details change

The price page shows the lowest price as one thing changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,057.66, S$204.22 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,057.66, S$204.22 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,057.66, S$204.22 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$932.63, S$79.19 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$879.11, S$25.67 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$812.33, S$41.11 less

Losing the NCD adds 24% to the lowest price. That is the biggest change here, and the younger driver and 20% NCD land on the same figure.

The older driver pays a little more. The 8-year-old car costs a little less than the 3-year-old one.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may change by different sums.

Beside similar cars

The price page compares six cars of similar engine size, for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Legacy costs 2% less, and two of the six are cheaper to insure.

The Subaru car insurance page covers the rest of the range. The cheapest cars to insure page compares across makes.

Costs that turn on your habits

These depend on how you use the car, so we give no figures:

  • Parking: season parking at home and work, and short-term parking elsewhere.
  • Petrol: distance driven times the pump price.
  • ERP: your routes and travel times.
  • Upkeep: servicing on the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. Older cars can need more work, so ask for the service records.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses from purchase until you sell or the COE ends.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Legacy 2.0, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$1,202.72 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$853.44 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,057.66
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$812.33

For reference, the Category B COE closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
