The Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon is a used-market car in Singapore today, with no new one on sale. If you are thinking of buying one, the running costs deserve as much thought as the asking price. This page sets out the figures we can show: COE, road tax and car insurance.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Treat them as a way to compare, not a quote. Your own price depends on your details.
The version we priced
There is no new-car list entry for this model, so there is no list price, power figure or body type to quote. Our quote form prices the Legacy Touring Wagon 2.5GT, with a 2,457cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote, and every figure below is for it.
Which COE applies
With a 2,457cc engine, above 1,600cc, the 2.5GT needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
On a used car, the COE is already paid and built into the price. The years left on it decide how long you can keep the car before you must renew or scrap it. The COE page shows the latest rounds.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives S$1,748.16 a year for the 2,457cc engine, before any age surcharge. On this car, road tax is a larger yearly bill than the lowest insurance price in the standard case.
Older cars pay a surcharge on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
With a base this high, each step of the surcharge adds a fair amount. Check the registration date of any car you look at. The road tax page works out other engine sizes.
Insurance for one standard driver
The Subaru Legacy Touring Wagon price page prices the same case at every insurer:
- Car: Legacy Touring Wagon 2.5GT, registered 3 years ago, private use
- Cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop repairs, no options
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years' driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
13 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$853.44 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,734.51. That is S$881.07 more, or 103% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
So the dearest lowest price is more than double the lowest. Three more insurers have no online price for this model.
Several insurers list more than one plan. Plans from one insurer can differ in what they cover, so look past the price to the cover.
The excess on each plan
The excess is the part of a claim you pay before the insurer pays. On this page it runs from S$0 to S$800. Most plans carry S$600, and some carry S$500, S$750 or S$800.
That is a narrow range compared with many cars. Even so, a plan with a higher excess costs you more on the day you claim. Read it beside the premium.
Prices marked as estimates come from an insurer's rate table. One price includes a promo code, as the price page shows.
What changes the price
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,078.23, S$224.79 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,078.23, S$224.79 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,078.23, S$224.79 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$932.63, S$79.19 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$879.11, S$25.67 more
- A car 8 years old: S$812.33, S$41.11 less
No NCD adds 26% to the lowest price. That is the largest change, and a 20% NCD or the younger driver lands on the same figure.
The older driver and a new car each cost a little more. The 8-year-old car costs a little less, which helps on a model bought used.
These are the lowest prices only. Other plans may move by different sums.
The similar cars
The price page sets six cars of similar engine size beside it, for the same driver and car age:
- Toyota Alphard: S$764.82
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Toyota Camry: S$841.31
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The Legacy Touring Wagon costs 4% less. Four of the six are cheaper to insure, and two cost more.
Other Subaru models are on the Subaru car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks cars across makes.
Costs that depend on you
We give no figures for these, as they vary from owner to owner:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
- Petrol: how far you drive and the pump price.
- ERP: the roads and times you drive.
- Maintenance: servicing on the maker's schedule, with tyres, brakes and a battery over the years. An older car may need more, so ask for its service history.
- Depreciation: what the car loses from the day you buy until you sell or the COE ends.
