The Subaru Forester's list price as listed, COE category, yearly road tax and example car insurance premiums in Singapore, with what changes each one.

Thinking about a Subaru Forester? The bills fall into two groups. Some you pay once, like the list price and the COE. Others come round every year, like road tax and car insurance. This guide covers both, with what each one is for this car.

Insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how prices compare and move. They are not a quote.

One Forester on the new-car list

The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 shows one Forester on sale. It is an SUV made in Japan:

  • Forester e-BOXER Hybrid 2.5i-S EyeSight: petrol-electric, 2,498cc, 194bhp

Our quote form covers older Foresters too. It lists six versions, from the 2.0 (1,994cc) to the 2.5 (2,501cc). The insurance figures below are for the Forester 2.0i-L Eyesight CVT (1,995cc). That is the version most of our insurers price.

The showroom price

As listed on 2026-10-10, the Forester e-BOXER Hybrid 2.5i-S EyeSight was S$199,800, COE included in the list price that day.

List prices change with each COE round. Ask what a quote includes, such as registration and any accessories, before you compare.

The COE

The price page's COE section covers the 2.0i-L Eyesight CVT. With a 1,995cc engine, above 1,600cc, it needs a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.

The current hybrid has a different engine size. The price page does not state its category, so check it with the seller. The COE page shows each round's results.

Road tax every year

For the 2.0i-L's 1,995cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,206.24 a year before any age surcharge. It was checked on 2026-10-19.

The 2.5 versions, including the hybrid on sale, pay a different sum. The road tax page works it out for any engine size.

For older cars, the surcharge applies after 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Insurance for a typical driver

The Subaru Forester price page prices this case:

  • Car: Forester 2.0i-L Eyesight CVT, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive
  • Driver: 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% NCD, no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no extras

15 insurers price it. The lowest premium is S$882.31. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,603.34. That is S$721.03 more, or 82% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

What the excess looks like

Excesses on this page run from S$0 to S$3,000. Most plans carry S$500 to S$800. The fourth-lowest premium carries S$2,500. A premium is only half the story if you claim.

Estimates on the page

Some prices are marked as estimates. They come from a published table rather than a live quote. Confirm the price on a full quote before you buy.

When the price changes

The price page gives the lowest price with one detail changed:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,072.56, S$190.25 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,072.56, S$190.25 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,072.56, S$190.25 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$931.07, S$48.76 more
  • A new car, registered this year: S$908.86, S$26.55 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$836.07, S$46.24 less

For the Forester, losing your NCD lifts the lowest price by 22%. A younger driver with a 30% NCD lands on the same figure. The car's age moves the price only a little, and an older Forester costs a little less to insure.

These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move further.

The older driver's line is worth a note too. At 65, the lowest price rises by S$48.76, and one fewer insurer prices the car. If an older family member will be the main driver, get a quote in their name before you decide.

Against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, here are six similar cars from the price page:

They average S$867.25, and the Forester is 2% above that. Four of them are cheaper to insure. The two Lexus models cost more. The Subaru car insurance page covers the make's other models.

The costs you set yourself

  • Parking: your HDB or condo season parking, plus parking at work and in town.
  • Petrol: depends on your yearly distance and the pump price.
  • ERP: depends on your routes and the times you travel.
  • Servicing and parts: follow the maker's schedule, and ask what the warranty and any service package include.
  • Depreciation: set by what you pay and what the car fetches later, and by how much COE is left when you sell.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Forester 2.0i-L Eyesight CVT, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$1,206.24 a year, before any age surcharge (checked 2026-10-19)

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,072.56
