This is a cost guide to the Skoda Scala for anyone in Singapore deciding whether one fits the budget. It goes through the yearly bills we can show with figures: road tax and car insurance, with a note on the COE.
Every insurance price below is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your quote will be different, because it rests on your own details.
Scala versions on the quote form
The new-car list has no Scala on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here. Our quote form lists four versions:
- Scala 1.5 1.0 TSI Ambition: 999cc
- Scala 1.5 1.0 TSI Monte Carlo: 999cc
- Scala 1.5 1.0 TSI Style: 999cc
- Scala 1.5 Monte Carlo TSI: 1,498cc
The prices below are for the 1.5 Monte Carlo TSI, the version most of our insurers quote. The 999cc versions have smaller engines, so their road tax is lower.
Which COE it needs
For the 1.5 Monte Carlo TSI, with a 1,498cc engine, power settles the category. The car needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. If its power is more, it needs a Category B COE.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Results change with each round, and the COE page tracks them.
Road tax each year
For the 1,498cc engine, LTA's formula comes to S$683.08 a year. That is before any surcharge for the car's age.
The surcharge only applies after 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
For the 999cc versions or any other engine, use the road tax page.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Skoda Scala price page prices one fixed case at every insurer:
- Car: Scala 1.5 Monte Carlo TSI, registered 3 years ago, private use
- Cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop, no options
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: a 50% no-claim discount (NCD) and no claims
11 insurers quote it. The lowest price is S$742.90 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,135.94, which is S$393.04 more, or 53% on top. Prices include 9% GST.
That is a narrower spread than on many cars, but it is still a real sum. The order of insurers can also change for a different driver.
Five more insurers have no online price for the Scala yet.
Looking at the excess
The excess is the first part of a claim, paid by you. On this page it ranges from S$500 to S$3,000. Most plans carry S$600.
Some of the lower premiums come with an excess of S$2,500 or S$3,000. If you claim, that difference counts against any saving on the premium. Compare the two figures together.
Prices marked as estimates come from an insurer's rate table, not a live quote.
What changes the premium
The price page shows the lowest price as one thing changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,135.94, S$393.04 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,066.35, S$323.45 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,135.94, S$393.04 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, unchanged
- A new car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
- A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less
Losing the NCD has the largest effect, a 53% rise on the lowest price. A younger driver with a short record pays the same higher figure.
An older driver with a long record pays no more. And the 8-year-old car costs less to insure than the 3-year-old one.
These are lowest prices only. Other plans in the table may shift by different amounts.
Against cars of a similar size
The price page compares six cars for the same driver and car age:
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Scala costs 1% more than that, so it sits close to the middle. Three of the six are cheaper to insure.
The Skoda car insurance page has the other Skoda models. The cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.
Costs that depend on how you use it
We do not give figures for these, because they vary so much:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus parking at work and when you go out.
- Petrol: depends on your distance and the pump price.
- ERP: depends on where and when you drive.
- Servicing: follow the maker's schedule. Budget for tyres, brakes and a battery in time.
- Depreciation: the value lost over the COE's life. It rests on what you pay and what the car fetches later.
