Skoda Rapid in Singapore, from road tax to car insurance

The yearly costs of a Skoda Rapid in Singapore: its COE rule, road tax and dated car insurance prices for a standard driver and for others.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Skoda Rapid is no longer on the new-car list, so most buyers today will look at a used one. That makes the yearly bills the main thing to cost out. This page covers road tax, the COE rule and car insurance for the Rapid.

Insurance prices here are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how prices compare. They are not what you will pay.

Versions on the quote form

There is no new-car list entry for the Rapid, so there is no list price, power or body type to give. Our quote form lists two engines:

  • Rapid 1.0: 999cc
  • Rapid 1.4: 1,395cc

The insurance figures are for the Rapid 1.0, the version most of our insurers quote.

How the COE category is set

For the Rapid 1.0, with its 999cc engine, power decides the category. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It needs a Category B COE if its power is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. These figures change every round. See the COE page for the latest.

On a used car, the COE has already been paid. Check how many years it has left, since that shapes what the car is worth to you.

Road tax for the 1.0

LTA's formula puts road tax for a 999cc engine at S$390.80 a year, before any age surcharge. The 1.4 has a bigger engine, so its road tax is higher.

Because many Rapids on the road are older cars, the surcharge matters. It starts after 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page works out other engine sizes.

What insurance costs for the standard driver

The Skoda Rapid price page asks every insurer to price the same case:

  • Car: Rapid 1.0, registered 3 years ago, private use
  • Cover: comprehensive, authorised workshop repairs, no options
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving for 10 to 19 years
  • History: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims

9 insurers give a price for that case. The lowest is S$545.00 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,199.64. The gap is S$654.64, or 120% on top of the lowest. All prices include 9% GST.

In plain terms, one quote can be more than twice another for the same car and driver.

Seven more insurers have no online price for the Rapid. With fewer quotes on offer, each one counts for more.

The excess on each plan

The excess is your share of any claim. On this page most plans carry S$600. The full range runs from S$0 to S$2,500. Look at both the premium and the excess before you compare. A plan with a big excess costs you more on the day you claim.

Some prices are marked as estimates. They come from an insurer's rate table, not a live quote.

Changes that move the price

Here is the lowest price when one detail changes, from the price page:

  • No NCD (0%): S$966.78, up S$421.78
  • 20% NCD: S$877.90, up S$332.90
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$966.78, up S$421.78
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$545.00, no change
  • A new car, registered this year: S$545.00, no change
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, no change

The NCD is the big lever on this car. Going from 50% to none lifts the lowest price by 77%. A younger driver with a short record pays the same as a driver with no NCD.

Car age and the older driver make no difference at this lowest price. Other plans may still change, so check the full table.

How the Rapid compares

The price page lines up six cars with similar engines, priced for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$660.63. The Rapid is 18% below that. None of the six is cheaper to insure; the Chery QQ matches it.

The Skoda car insurance page has the other Skoda models. You can also see the cheapest cars to insure across all makes.

Costs we cannot put a figure on

These depend on you, so no figure is given:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus what you pay at work, malls and on the street.
  • Petrol: your mileage times the pump price.
  • ERP: set by the roads you use and when.
  • Upkeep: servicing to the maker's schedule, with tyres, brakes and a battery over time. An older car may need more of these.
  • Depreciation: what the car loses each year until its COE runs out. It depends on your buying price and its later value.

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Rapid 1.0, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$390.80 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$545.00 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$966.78
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$545.00

For a new registration, the COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B).
