The Octavia VRS is a Skoda model you will see on Singapore roads. If you are thinking of buying one, new or used, the running costs matter as much as the price. This page sets out the costs we can show, item by item.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not a quote for you. Your own price depends on your age, record and car.
Which Octavia VRS we priced
The new-car list has no entry for the Octavia VRS on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type to give here.
Our quote form prices the Octavia VRS 2.0 (A), with a 1,984cc engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote. All the figures below are for that car.
COE category
The engine size decides this car's COE. At 1,984cc it is above 1,600cc, so the Octavia VRS 2.0 (A) needs a Category B COE.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100. The premium moves every bidding round. The COE page shows the latest results.
If you are buying a used Octavia VRS, the COE is already paid. What matters then is how many years are left on it.
Road tax
LTA works out road tax from engine size. For a 1,984cc engine, its formula gives S$1,193.34 a year. That is before any surcharge for age.
Older cars pay more. The surcharge begins once a car passes 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The road tax page covers other engine sizes.
Insuring it: the standard driver
The Skoda Octavia VRS price page uses one set of answers for every insurer:
- The car: Octavia VRS 2.0 (A), registered 3 years ago, private use
- The cover: comprehensive, repairs at an authorised workshop, no options
- The driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
With those answers, 12 insurers give a price. The lowest is S$940.98 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,823.12. That is S$882.14 more, or 94% on top. Every price includes 9% GST.
So the same driver, in the same car, could pay close to double depending on the insurer. That spread is why comparing is worth the time.
Four more insurers have no online price for this model yet.
Check the excess too
The excess is what you pay towards each claim before the insurer pays the rest. On this page it runs from S$0 to S$3,000. Most plans sit at S$600.
The lowest premium here carries the highest excess, S$3,000. Several plans close behind it carry S$600. A low yearly price can cost more over time if you claim. So read both columns together.
Some prices on the page are marked as estimates. Those come from an insurer's table rather than a live quote.
What moves the premium
The price page also shows the lowest price when one detail changes. Everything else stays as above.
- No NCD (0%): S$1,168.64, which is S$227.66 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,153.53, which is S$212.55 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,168.64, which is S$227.66 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$902.01, which is S$38.97 less
- A new car, registered this year: S$942.26, which is S$1.28 more
- A car 8 years old: S$816.70, which is S$124.28 less
Losing your NCD makes the biggest difference here: the lowest price rises by 24%. A younger driver with a short record lands at the same figure.
Car age works the other way. An 8-year-old Octavia VRS costs less to insure than a 3-year-old one at this lowest price. A brand-new one costs almost the same as the 3-year-old car.
These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by more or less.
Next to similar cars
The price page sets the Octavia VRS beside six cars of similar engine size. Same driver, same car age, lowest price each:
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Octavia VRS costs 9% more than that. Four of the six are cheaper to insure. Only the two Lexus models cost more.
Other Skoda models are on the Skoda car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure list ranks models across makes.
The costs that are yours to set
Some costs depend on how and where you use the car. We give no figures for these.
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, and parking at work and in town. Rates differ by place.
- Petrol: set by how far you drive and pump prices on the day.
- ERP: depends on your routes and when you travel.
- Servicing: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and batteries wear out over time. Ask what any warranty or service plan covers.
- Depreciation: the value the car loses over its COE life. It depends on what you pay and what the car fetches when you sell.
