A Peugeot 308 is now mostly a used-car buy in Singapore. Whether you are pricing one up or renewing cover on one you own, the useful question is what it costs each year. This page goes through the costs we can put a number on, then the ones that depend on you.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium will depend on your details.
The 308 versions we can price
There is no 308 on the new-car list we read, so there is no list price here. Our quote form has three versions:
- 308 1.4 VTi: 1,397cc
- 308 1.6 HDi: 1,560cc
- 308 2.0 HDI FAP: 1,997cc
The prices on this page are for the 1.4 VTi, the version most of our insurers quote. The two HDi versions have larger engines, so their road tax and premiums will differ.
COE for the 1.4 VTi
Every car on Singapore roads carries a COE. The 1.4 VTi's 1,397cc engine means its category depends on power:
- Category A: power of 97kW (130bhp) or less. The October 2026 1st round closed at S$130,001.
- Category B: power above that. The same round closed at S$130,100.
With a used 308, you pay for the COE through the car's price. The years left on it are worth checking. Latest results are on the COE page.
Road tax
On the 1,397cc engine, LTA's formula comes to S$623.84 a year before any age surcharge. Larger engines pay more; the road tax page has the sums for other sizes.
A car more than 10 years old pays an age surcharge on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Insurance for the 308
The Peugeot 308 price page uses one standard profile:
- Car: 308 1.4 VTi, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons
How many insurers quote it
Only 8 insurers give an online price for this car. Eight others on our panel do not. Most of those have no online price for the model yet. One does not list it, and one lists it only with another engine or fuel type. The price page names each one and its reason.
With fewer insurers quoting, you have fewer prices to compare online. It can be worth asking the others directly.
The spread
The lowest premium is S$545.00 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,324.57. That is S$779.57 more, or 143% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
The excess
Most plans on the page carry an excess of S$600. Some carry S$500 or S$800, and one has none. Check the excess with each premium, since it is the part of a claim you pay yourself.
Changes that move the price
The price page shows the lowest price when one detail changes:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,098.76, S$553.76 more
- 20% NCD: S$903.53, S$358.53 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,010.22, S$465.22 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$545.00, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$552.91, S$7.91 more
- A car 8 years old: S$545.00, the same
The standout is the NCD. A driver with none sees the lowest price rise 102%, more than double. A young driver with 30% NCD also pays far more. By contrast, the car's age hardly changes the lowest price at all. That is useful for a model bought mostly second-hand.
These are lowest prices only. Other plans can move by different amounts.
Similar cars, same driver
The price page sets six similar cars beside the 308, for the same driver and car age:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The 308's S$545.00 is 26% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Bear in mind each of those rivals is quoted by more insurers than the 308. The Peugeot car insurance page covers other Peugeot models.
Costs that vary by owner
- Parking: season parking at home plus parking elsewhere. HDB, condo and office rates all differ.
- Fuel: what you spend depends on your mileage and pump prices.
- ERP: depends on your routes and timing.
- Servicing and repairs: an older car may need more parts over time. Ask for the service record and check what any remaining warranty covers.
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left and what you sell for.
