Peugeot 206 in Singapore, yearly road tax and car insurance costs

The Peugeot 206 1.4 in Singapore: road tax, COE category and dated insurance prices, where having no NCD nearly doubles the lowest premium.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Peugeot 206 1.4 is a used-market car in Singapore today. If you are pricing one, the yearly costs to plan for are road tax and car insurance. For an experienced driver the lowest premium is modest. Without a no-claim discount, it nearly doubles. This guide sets out the figures, with the COE category.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Use them to compare, not as your quote.

The version priced

Our quote form prices the Peugeot 206 1.4, with a 1,360cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, and the only one here.

The new-car list read for this guide has no entry for the 206 on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type.

COE

For the 206 1.4, with its 1,360cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A: if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
  • Category B: if it is more

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. On a used car, the COE stays with the car until it expires. The COE page has the latest.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,360cc engine S$602.14 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge for older cars:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

Check the registration date of any 206 you consider, since it sets which band applies. The road tax page has the formula.

Car insurance for the standard driver

The Peugeot 206 price page prices this case:

  • Car: Peugeot 206 1.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

12 insurers price it, across 17 plans. The lowest premium is S$642.42, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,566.40. That is S$923.98 more, or 144% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That is a very wide spread. Four insurers on the panel have no online price for the 206.

Excess

Eight of the 17 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500 and two S$750. Three carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. Every plan here has an excess.

The second-lowest premium, S$825.78, is the plan with the S$3,000 excess. The third, S$914.76, carries S$600. Only one plan is an estimate.

The NCD lines matter most

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,217.44, S$575.02 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,023.68, S$381.26 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,205.45, S$563.03 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$642.42, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$660.69, S$18.27 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$586.41, S$56.01 less

With no NCD, the lowest price is 90% higher. A 20% NCD still adds S$381.26. A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays S$1,205.45, close to the no-NCD figure.

If you are building your NCD, plan on a figure well above the headline. An older driver with a long record pays the same as the standard driver, though one fewer insurer quotes. An older 206 costs less to insure at the lowest price.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move differently.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$753.91. The 206 is 15% below it. Only one of the six, the Sienta, is cheaper to insure. The Freed matches it. Other Peugeot models are on the Peugeot car insurance page.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: only one of six similar cars costs less to insure
  • For: an older car costs less to insure at the lowest price
  • Against: the lowest price nearly doubles with no NCD
  • Against: a very wide spread between insurers

Costs that depend on you

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and the times you travel
  • Servicing and parts: ask how easily parts can be found, and for the service record
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you pay a deposit

  • COE expiry date: on the papers
  • Registration date: it decides the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: what has been replaced and what is due
  • Quotes with your own NCD: since it moves this car's price so much
