The Peugeot 2008 1.2 has a small engine, so its road tax is modest. Car insurance for an experienced driver starts at a low figure too. The figures move a lot, though, when the driver has no no-claim discount. This guide goes through road tax, the COE category and car insurance.
All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to the market, not your quote.
Two versions on the form
Our quote form lists:
- Peugeot 2008 1.2: 1,199cc
- Peugeot 2008 1.6: 1,560cc
The price page prices the 2008 1.2, the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no entry for the 2008 on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.
COE
For the 2008 1.2, with its 1,199cc engine, the category depends on power:
- Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
- Category B: more than that. S$130,100 in the same round.
A used 2008 keeps its COE until it expires. Check how many years are left before you agree a price. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,199cc engine S$507.72 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.
The surcharge for older cars:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The 1.6 has a bigger engine and pays more. The road tax page has its figure.
Here's what insurance costs
The Peugeot 2008 price page prices this case:
- Car: Peugeot 2008 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
13 insurers price it, across 20 plans. The lowest premium is S$622.34, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,386.67. That is S$764.33 more, or 123% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on the panel have no online price for the 2008. The other 13 show a wide range, so several quotes are worth having.
Excess
Eight of the 20 plans carry an S$600 excess. Two carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none.
The second-lowest premium, S$804.99, is the plan with the S$3,000 excess. The third, S$848.67, carries S$500. So the plans nearest the lowest differ a great deal in what you pay on a claim. Three plans are estimates.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,026.78, S$404.44 more
- 20% NCD: S$997.11, S$374.77 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,026.78, S$404.44 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$622.34, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$642.42, S$20.08 more
- Car 8 years old: S$569.36, S$52.98 less
Your NCD is the big lever. With none, the lowest price is 65% higher. A 20% NCD still leaves S$374.77 more to pay. A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays the no-NCD figure.
At the other end, a 65-year-old with a long record pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting. An older car costs less to insure at the lowest price, and a new one a little more.
These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans can move by other amounts.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

- Toyota C-HR: S$552.91
- Mercedes-Benz A-Class: S$787.96
- Mercedes-Benz GLA: S$787.96
- Nissan Qashqai: S$590.12
Their average lowest price is S$688.21. The 2008 is 10% below it. Two of the six cost less to insure: the C-HR and the Qashqai. The Jazz matches it. Other Peugeot models are on the Peugeot car insurance page.

- Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
- ERP: your routes and travel times
- Servicing: the maker's schedule; on a used car, ask for the record
- Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left
Before you buy
- Which version: the 1.6 pays more road tax
- COE expiry date: and the years left
