Peugeot 208 running costs in Singapore, from road tax to insurance

What a Peugeot 208 costs to keep on Singapore roads: COE rules, road tax and dated car insurance prices for a stated driver.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

If you are thinking of buying a used Peugeot 208, or you already have one and your renewal is coming up, this page sets out the costs we can put a figure on. It covers the COE, road tax and car insurance, and then the costs that depend on how you use the car.

The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium depends on your details, so read them as a guide to the spread, not as a quote.

Which 208 we priced

The new-car list we read has no 208 on sale now, so there is no list price to show here. Our quote form carries two versions:

  • Peugeot 208 1.2: 1,199cc
  • Peugeot 208 1.6 e-HDi Allure: 1,560cc

The insurance prices below are for the 1.2, the version most of our insurers quote. The 1.6 e-HDi Allure has a larger engine, so its road tax and premiums will differ.

The COE

Any car registered in Singapore needs a Certificate of Entitlement. For the 208 1.2, with its 1,199cc engine, the category depends on power.

  • Category A: if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. It closed at S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
  • Category B: if its power is more than that. It closed at S$130,100 in the same round.

COE premiums change every bidding round. If you buy a used 208, the COE is already paid, and the years left on it shape the price you pay. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax on the 1.2

Road tax is worked out from engine size. For the 1,199cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$507.72 a year, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge applies to cars over 10 years old and rises each year after that:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

A 208 that has stayed on the road a long time will pay more each year for the same engine. Other engine sizes are on the road tax page.

Insuring the 208: one driver, many prices

The Peugeot 208 price page prices one profile:

  • Car: Peugeot 208 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: at an authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that profile, 11 insurers give an online price. The lowest is S$545.00 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,334.57. That is S$789.57 more, or 145% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

So the same car and the same driver can cost well over twice as much from one insurer as from another. That gap is why a renewal letter is worth checking against other prices.

What the excess looks like

The excess is the amount you pay yourself when you claim. On this page most plans carry S$600. A few carry S$500 or S$800, one carries S$2,500, and one has no excess at all. When you compare, set each premium beside its excess. A cheaper premium with a higher excess costs more if you ever claim.

Insurers without a price

Five insurers on our panel give no online price for the 208. Some do not list the model, and one lists it only with a different engine or fuel type. The price page gives the reason for each.

What moves the premium

The price page also shows the lowest price when one thing changes and everything else stays the same:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,026.78, which is S$481.78 more
  • 20% NCD: S$903.53, S$358.53 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,010.22, S$465.22 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$545.00, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$552.91, S$7.91 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$545.00, the same

The NCD is the big lever here. Losing all of it raises the lowest price by 88%. A younger driver with less experience sits close to that level too. Car age barely moves the lowest price.

These are the lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by different amounts when the same thing changes.

How it sits against similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page compares six similar cars. Here is the lowest price for each:

Their average lowest price is S$688.21. At S$545.00, the 208 comes in 21% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure for this driver. Other Peugeot models are on the Peugeot car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks models across makes.

Costs we cannot put a figure on

Some costs depend too much on the owner to give one number.

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and when you go out. Check your own block's rate.
  • Petrol: depends on how far you drive and the pump price on the day.
  • ERP: depends on which roads you use and at what times.
  • Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule. Tyres, brakes and a battery come due over the years. On a used car, ask for the service record.
  • Depreciation: depends on what you pay, the COE years left, and what the car fetches when you sell.

Yearly costs at a glance

For the Peugeot 208 1.2, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$507.72 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$545.00 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,026.78
  • Insurance, driver aged 27 with 30% NCD: from S$1,010.22

For a new registration, the October 2026 1st round COE was S$130,001 for Category A and S$130,100 for Category B.
