Opel Vectra in Singapore, Category B COE, road tax and insurance

The Opel Vectra 1.8 in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax of S$972.80 a year and dated car insurance prices for standard, young and older drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Opel Vectra 1.8 sits just above the 1,600cc line, which puts it in COE Category B. That also lifts its road tax above that of smaller sedans. This guide sets out those costs and what car insurance looks like for several drivers.

Every insurance price here is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details.

Vectra versions

Our quote form lists two:

  • Vectra 1.8: 1,796cc
  • Vectra 2.2: 2,198cc

The price page prices the Vectra 1.8, the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no Vectra on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.

The COE

The Vectra 1.8's 1,796cc engine is above 1,600cc. That means a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

A used Vectra comes with its COE already paid. When it runs out, the car must be renewed or taken off the road. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,796cc engine S$972.80 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars pay a surcharge on top:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The Vectra 2.2 has a bigger engine and pays more. The road tax page has its figure.

What insurance costs

The Opel Vectra price page prices this case:

  • Car: Vectra 1.8, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

12 insurers price it, across 19 plans. The lowest premium is S$787.96, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,451.27. That is S$663.31 more, or 84% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Four insurers on the panel have no online price for the Vectra. So the field is a little narrower than for a common car.

Excess

Eight of the 19 plans carry an S$600 excess. Two carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. Every plan here has an excess.

The second-lowest premium, S$945.75, is one of the S$2,500 plans. The third, S$975.12, carries S$600. Four plans are estimates, which can change once your details are in.

When one thing changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,226.63, S$438.67 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,226.63, S$438.67 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,226.63, S$438.67 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$787.96, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$811.71, S$23.75 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$721.59, S$66.37 less

Losing your NCD is the costliest change: the lowest price rises by 56%. A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays the same figure.

An older driver pays the same as the standard driver, though one fewer insurer quotes. An older Vectra costs less to insure at the lowest price. Since any Vectra you buy will be used, the older-car line is likely the closest to your case.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move differently.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six cars, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$741.89. The Vectra is 6% above it. Four of the six cost less to insure: the Corolla Altis, the Harrier, the Kona and the Avante. The E-Class and the 5 Series cost more. Other Opel models are on the Opel car insurance page.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: no rise for an older main driver at the lowest price
  • For: an older car costs less to insure at the lowest price
  • Against: four of six similar cars cost less to insure
  • Against: Category B road tax of S$972.80 a year before any surcharge

Costs that depend on you

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and the times you travel
  • Servicing and parts: ask for the record and what has been replaced
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you pay a deposit

  • COE expiry date: on the papers
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: what has been done and what is due
  • Your own quotes: with your own NCD and the main driver's age
