The Opel Astra Break is not on the new-car list, so any you find will be a used car. That makes the yearly bills the figures to plan around. This guide covers road tax, the COE category and car insurance.
All insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show where the market sits. Your own quote depends on your details.
The Astra Break we price
Our quote form prices the Astra Break with a 1,388cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, and the only one this guide covers.
The new-car list read for this guide has no entry for the Astra Break on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.
Which COE it needs
The Astra Break has a 1,388cc engine. Its COE category depends on power:
- Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
- Category B: above that. S$130,100 in the same round.
On a used car, the COE stays with the car until it ends. When it does, the car must be renewed or taken off the road. The COE page shows recent results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,388cc engine S$618.56 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.
Once a car passes 10 years, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
If the car you are looking at is near the 10-year mark, factor in the step up. The road tax page has the details.
Car insurance for the standard driver
The Opel Astra Break price page prices this case:
- Car: Astra Break, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
13 insurers price it, across 19 plans. The lowest premium is S$742.90, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,350.31. That is S$607.41 more, or 82% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on the panel have no online price for the Astra Break.
The excess
Ten of the 19 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One carries none. The highest excess on any plan here is S$800, which keeps them in a narrow band.
Four plans are estimates. Their final price can change once the insurer has your details.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,120.15, S$377.25 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,120.15, S$377.25 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,120.15, S$377.25 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$742.90, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
- Car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less
NCD: with none, the lowest price is 51% higher. That is the costliest change on the page.
A young driver: aged 27 with 30% NCD, the lowest price is the same as with no NCD.
An older driver: aged 65 with a long record, the price holds, but one fewer insurer quotes.
Car age: an 8-year-old Astra Break is cheaper to insure at the lowest price. That line may be closest to the car you buy.
These are lowest prices only; dearer plans can move differently.
