The Opel Corsa is a small hatchback with a small engine, and its fixed yearly costs are low. For an experienced driver, the lowest insurance premium is modest too. For a driver without a no-claim discount, it is a different story. This guide sets out the figures, with the COE category.
All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.
Corsa versions
Our quote form lists two:
- Corsa 1.2: 1,199cc
- Corsa 1.4: 1,389cc
The price page prices the Corsa 1.2, the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no Corsa on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.
COE
For the Corsa 1.2, with its 1,199cc engine, the category turns on power:
- Category A: if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
- Category B: if it is more
Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has the latest. A used Corsa keeps its COE until it expires.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,199cc engine S$507.72 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.
The surcharge for cars more than 10 years old:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The Corsa 1.4 has a bigger engine and pays a little more. The road tax page has its figure.
Here is what insurance costs
The Opel Corsa price page prices this case:
- Car: Corsa 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
14 insurers price it, across 22 plans. The lowest premium is S$604.07, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,294.49. That is S$690.42 more, or 114% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Two insurers on the panel have no online price for the Corsa. The other 14 give a wide range of prices, so it helps to get several quotes before you settle on one plan.
Excess
Ten of the 22 plans carry an S$600 excess. Two carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none.
The second-lowest premium, S$748.81, comes with an S$2,500 excess. Four plans are estimates. Read premium and excess together.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,080.50, S$476.43 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,017.37, S$413.30 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,080.50, S$476.43 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$604.07, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
- Car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less
The NCD is the big lever on this car. With none, the lowest price is 79% higher. A 20% NCD still leaves it S$413.30 above the standard driver. A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays the no-NCD figure.
If you are a newer driver, or a parent pricing a first car for a child, those lines matter more than the headline.
An older driver with a long record pays the same, though one fewer insurer quotes. An older Corsa costs less to insure at the lowest price.
These are lowest prices only.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Jazz / Fit: S$622.34
- Toyota C-HR: S$552.91
- Mercedes-Benz A-Class: S$787.96
- Mercedes-Benz GLA: S$787.96
- Nissan Qashqai: S$590.12
Their average lowest price is S$688.21. The Corsa is 12% below it. Two of the six, the C-HR and the Qashqai, cost less to insure. Other Opel models are on the Opel car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page lists more.
Pros and cons on insurance cost
- For: below the average of six similar cars
- For: no rise for an older main driver at the lowest price
- Against: a large rise with no NCD or a low one
- Against: a wide spread between insurers
Costs that depend on you
These vary from owner to owner:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking elsewhere
- Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
- ERP: your routes and times
- Servicing: the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and battery in time
- Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left
Before you buy
- COE expiry: confirm the date and years left
- Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
- Service history: ask what has been replaced
- Quotes with your own NCD: it moves this car's price the most
