For an experienced driver with a full no-claim discount, the Opel Crossland X 1.2 starts at a modest premium. For anyone else, the numbers look quite different. This guide sets out road tax, the COE category and the insurance figures for several drivers.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show how the market prices the car, not your quote.
Two versions on the form
Our quote form lists:
- Crossland X 1.2: 1,199cc
- Crossland X D15DTH: 1,499cc
The price page prices the Crossland X 1.2, the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no Crossland X on sale now, so there is no list price, power figure or body type here.
COE
The Crossland X 1.2 has a 1,199cc engine. Its category depends on power:
- Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
- Category B: more than that. S$130,100 in the same round.
A used car carries its existing COE until it ends. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,199cc engine S$507.72 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.
The surcharge for older cars:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The D15DTH has a bigger engine, and road tax rules also differ by fuel type. Check the exact car on the road tax page.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Opel Crossland X price page prices this case:
- Car: Crossland X 1.2, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
15 insurers price it, across 23 plans. The lowest premium is S$604.07, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,350.31. That is S$746.24 more, or 124% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Only one insurer on the panel has no online price for the Crossland X, so the comparison covers nearly the whole panel.
Excess
Ten of the 23 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none.
The second-lowest premium, S$747.39, carries an S$2,500 excess. Four plans are estimates, so their final price can change once your details are in.
The NCD lines
The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,176.50, S$572.43 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,017.37, S$413.30 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,136.39, S$532.32 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$604.07, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$622.34, S$18.27 more
- Car 8 years old: S$552.91, S$51.16 less
With no NCD, the lowest price is 95% higher, close to double. A 20% NCD still adds S$413.30. A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays S$1,136.39.
That puts the young-driver price at nearly twice the standard driver's. If the main driver is young or new, budget from those lines, not the headline.
An older driver pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting. An older car costs less to insure at the lowest price, and a new one slightly more.
These are lowest prices only.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Jazz / Fit: S$622.34
- Toyota C-HR: S$552.91
- Mercedes-Benz A-Class: S$787.96
- Mercedes-Benz GLA: S$787.96
- Nissan Qashqai: S$590.12
Their average lowest price is S$688.21. The Crossland X is 12% below it. Two of the six cost less to insure: the C-HR and the Qashqai. The Jazz is just above it. Other Opel models are on the Opel car insurance page.
Pros and cons on insurance cost
- For: below the average of six similar cars
- For: nearly the whole panel prices it
- Against: the lowest price nearly doubles with no NCD
- Against: a young driver's lowest price is far above the headline
Costs that depend on you
These vary from owner to owner:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
- Fuel: your mileage and the pump price
- ERP: your routes and times
- Servicing: the maker's schedule; ask for the record on a used car
- Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left
Before you buy
- Which version: the engine and fuel type set road tax
- COE expiry date: and the years left
- Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
- Quotes for the real main driver: their NCD and age move the price most
