The Opel Insignia appears on our quote form with four engines, from 1.5 litres to a 2.0 turbo. The 1.5 is the one most insurers quote, and its road tax is moderate. This guide sets out that car's road tax, COE category and car insurance.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.
Insignia versions
The new-car list read for this guide has no Insignia on sale now, so there is no list price, power figure or body type here. Our quote form lists:
- Insignia 1.5: 1,498cc
- Insignia 1.6: 1,598cc
- Insignia 2.0 (A): 1,998cc
- Insignia 2.0 Turbo: 1,998cc
The price page prices the Insignia 1.5. All figures below are for that car. The 2.0 versions have much larger engines, so their road tax is higher.
COE
For the Insignia 1.5, with its 1,498cc engine, the category depends on power:
- Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
- Category B: more than that. S$130,100 in the same round.
A used Insignia keeps its COE until it expires. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,498cc engine S$683.08 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.
The surcharge for older cars:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Look up the 1.6 and 2.0 figures on the road tax page.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Opel Insignia price page prices this case:
- Car: Insignia 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
13 insurers price it, across 20 plans. The lowest premium is S$764.82, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,499.13. That is S$734.31 more, or 96% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on the panel have no online price for the Insignia.
Excess
Ten of the 20 plans carry an S$600 excess. Two carry S$500 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none.
The second-lowest premium, S$810.59, carries an S$2,500 excess. That is only a little above the lowest, with a much larger excess. Four plans are estimates, which can change once your details are in.

- New car, registered this year: S$779.63, S$14.81 more

- Your NCD has the most effect. With none, the lowest price is 59% higher.
- A young driver with 30% NCD pays the same as a driver with none.
- An older driver with a long record pays the same as the standard driver, though one fewer insurer quotes.
- An older car costs less to insure at the lowest price. A new one costs a little more.
These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans can move by other amounts.
