Opel Mokka in Singapore, road tax, COE and an insurance excess to check

The Opel Mokka 1,199cc in Singapore: road tax, COE category and dated insurance prices, where the lowest premium comes with a S$2,500 excess.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Opel Mokka's insurance has a detail that changes how you read the prices. The lowest premium comes with a high excess, and older drivers pay noticeably more. This guide sets out the figures with road tax and the COE category.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.

The Mokka we price

Our quote form prices the Mokka with a 1,199cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, and the only one here.

The new-car list read for this guide has no entry for the Mokka on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type.

COE

For the Mokka, with its 1,199cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
  • Category B: more than that. S$130,100 in the same round.

A used Mokka keeps its COE until it expires. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,199cc engine S$507.72 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge for older cars:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the formula.

Car insurance for the standard driver

The Opel Mokka price page prices this case:

  • Car: Mokka, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

12 insurers price it, across 18 plans. The lowest premium is S$747.39. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,350.31. That is S$602.92 more, or 81% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Four insurers on the panel have no online price for the Mokka. That leaves a dozen to compare, which is still a fair field for a car of this kind.

Read the excess first

The lowest premium is the plan with an S$2,500 excess. The second-lowest, S$927.37, carries S$500. So the lowest premium asks far more of you on a claim. If you expect you might claim, the second plan may cost you less overall. The gap between the two premiums is the price of that lower excess, and it is worth weighing against how likely you are to claim.

Across all 18 plans, nine carry S$600. Two carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One carries S$2,500 and one none. Four plans are estimates.

How the price moves

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,117.23, S$369.84 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,117.23, S$369.84 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,117.23, S$369.84 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$886.06, S$138.67 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$719.77, S$27.62 less
  • Car 8 years old: S$724.33, S$23.06 less

NCD: with none, the lowest price is 49% higher.

Older driver: a 65-year-old pays S$138.67 more at the lowest price, with one fewer insurer quoting. That is a bigger rise than many cars show. If an older family member will be the main driver, get quotes in their name.

Car age: both a new car and an 8-year-old one cost less than the 3-year-old car at the lowest price. Price your own car at its real age.

These are lowest prices only.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$688.21. The Mokka is 9% above it. Three of the six cost less to insure: the Jazz, the C-HR and the Qashqai. The three Mercedes-Benz models cost more. Other Opel models are on the Opel car insurance page.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: low road tax on a 1,199cc engine
  • For: a narrower spread between insurers than many cars
  • Against: the lowest premium carries an S$2,500 excess
  • Against: older drivers pay more, and four insurers have no online price

Costs that depend on you

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and times
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule; ask for the record on a used car
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you buy

  • COE expiry date: and the years left
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: what has been replaced and what is due next
  • Quotes for the real main driver: their age changes this car's price
