Opel Insignia SPRT Tourer in Singapore, road tax and insurance costs

The Opel Insignia SPRT Tourer 1.6 ECOTEC in Singapore: road tax, COE category and dated insurance prices, with a big gap after the lowest plan.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

If you are pricing a used Opel Insignia SPRT Tourer, two yearly costs can be set down in figures: road tax and car insurance. This guide does that, and explains the COE category. It also shows a pattern worth knowing: the lowest premium sits well apart from every other plan.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are not your quote.

The version on our form

Our quote form prices the Insignia SPRT Tourer 1.6 ECOTEC, with a 1,598cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, and the only one here.

The new-car list read for this guide has no entry for this model on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type.

COE

For the 1.6 ECOTEC, with its 1,598cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
  • Category B: more than that. S$130,100 in the same round.

A used car keeps its existing COE until it ends. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,598cc engine S$741.72 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge for older cars:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the formula.

Car insurance for the standard driver

The Opel Insignia SPRT Tourer price page prices this case:

  • Car: SPRT Tourer 1.6 ECOTEC, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

12 insurers price it, across 18 plans. The lowest premium is S$700.28, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,499.13. That is S$798.85 more, or 114% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The next-lowest plan is S$959.78. So the lowest premium is a long way below the rest of the field. Four insurers on the panel have no online price for this model.

Excess

Ten of the 18 plans carry an S$600 excess. Two carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One carries none. No plan here goes above S$800.

Four plans are estimates. Their price can change once the insurer sees your details.

How the price moves

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,226.63, S$526.35 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,179.41, S$479.13 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,226.63, S$526.35 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$700.28, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$721.59, S$21.31 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$642.42, S$57.86 less

No NCD: the lowest price is 75% higher. That is the change that costs most.

20% NCD: still S$479.13 above the standard driver.

A 27-year-old with 30% NCD: the same as the no-NCD figure.

An older driver: pays the same, though one fewer insurer quotes.

Car age: an 8-year-old car is cheaper to insure at the lowest price, and a new one a little dearer.

These are lowest prices only. Since the lowest plan stands so far apart, other plans may move quite differently.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The SPRT Tourer is 3% below it. Three of the six cost less to insure: the Corolla Altis, the Sienta and the Freed. Other Opel models are on the Opel car insurance page.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: excesses no higher than S$800
  • For: an older car costs less to insure at the lowest price
  • Against: only one plan near the lowest price
  • Against: losing your NCD adds S$526.35 at the lowest price

Costs that depend on you

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and the times you travel
  • Servicing and parts: ask for the record and what has been replaced
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you buy

  • COE expiry date: and the years left
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: what has been done and what is due
  • Several quotes: since one plan sits so far below the rest, see what the next options cost too
