If you are weighing up a Nissan Sylphy, the sticker price is only the start. You also pay for a COE, road tax every year and car insurance every year. This page sets out each of those costs for the Sylphy, item by item.
The insurance prices here are examples. They were read on 20 October 2026 for one stated driver and one stated car. Change any detail and the price changes, so use them to see how the costs behave rather than as a quote.
Which Sylphy is priced
The new-car list has no Sylphy on sale now, so this page has no list price for it. The Sylphy you are likely to buy is a used one, and the quote form covers several generations:
- Nissan Bluebird Sylphy 2.0XJ-G: 1,998cc
- Nissan Bluebird Sylphy 15i: 1,498cc
- Nissan Sylphy 1.5: 1,498cc
- Nissan Sylphy 1.6 Premium: 1,598cc
- Nissan Sylphy 1.8 Premium: 1,798cc
- Nissan Sylphy 2.0XV: 1,997cc
The insurance figures below are for the Sylphy 1.6 Premium, with its 1,598cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote. If your car has a different engine, its road tax and insurance will differ from the figures here.
The COE question
Any car registered in Singapore needs a Certificate of Entitlement. For the Sylphy 1.6 Premium, the category depends on power. It needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Those figures move with each bidding round. The COE page carries the latest results.
If you buy a used Sylphy, the COE is already paid. What matters then is how many years are left on it, because that time is part of what you pay for.
Road tax each year
LTA sets road tax by engine size. For the 1.6 Premium's 1,598cc engine, the formula gives S$741.72 a year, before any age surcharge.
Older cars pay more. Once a car passes 10 years, a surcharge is added on top:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
This matters for the Sylphy, since many on the road are used cars. An older Sylphy with a renewed COE may already be paying a surcharge. The 1.5, 1.8 and 2.0 versions have different engine sizes, so their road tax is not the figure above. The road tax page lets you check other engine sizes.
What insurance costs for one driver
The Nissan Sylphy price page prices a single driver and car:
- The car: Sylphy 1.6 Premium, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- The driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- The record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: at an authorised workshop, with no options added
On those details, 15 insurers price the car. The lowest premium is S$622.34 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan costs the most asks at least S$1,317.87. That is S$695.53 more, or 112% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Put simply, the same Sylphy and the same driver can cost more than twice as much to insure, depending on where the policy comes from. Some prices on the page are marked as estimates, so check the final figure on the insurer's own quote.
Excess
The excess is the part of each claim you pay yourself. Most plans on the page carry S$600. The range is wide, though: one plan has no excess at all, and some ask S$2,500 or S$3,000. When you compare, set the excess next to the premium. A lower premium with a high excess can cost you more in a year when you claim.
What moves the price
The price page also shows the lowest premium when one detail changes and the rest stay the same:
- No NCD (0%): S$969.30, which is S$346.96 more
- 20% NCD: S$969.30, also S$346.96 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$969.30, S$346.96 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$622.34, no change
- A new car, registered this year: S$642.42, S$20.08 more
- A car 8 years old: S$569.36, S$52.98 less
The NCD line is the big one. Without a discount, the lowest price rises by 56%. A young driver with a short record lands at the same figure. The age of the car matters far less, and an older Sylphy is a little cheaper to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one.
Keep in mind these are lowest prices only. The plans further up the list may move by different amounts.
How it compares with similar cars
The price page sets the Sylphy beside six similar cars, for the same driver and car age. Each one's lowest price:
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
Across the six, the average lowest price is S$724.93. The Sylphy sits 14% below that. Only one of the six, the Toyota Sienta, is cheaper to insure. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks more.
Costs that vary by owner
Some running costs depend so much on how and where you drive that one figure would mislead.
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and at malls. Rates differ by car park, so check yours.
- Petrol: set by your mileage and the pump price on the day.
- ERP: depends on which roads you use and when.
- Servicing and repairs: a used Sylphy may need tyres, brakes or a battery sooner. Ask for the service record before you buy.
- Depreciation: what you lose depends on the price you pay and the COE years left when you sell.
Summary of yearly costs we can show
For the Sylphy 1.6 Premium, with each figure's date:
- Road tax: S$741.72 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)

- Insurance, no NCD: from S$969.30

For a new registration, the COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 (Category A) or S$130,100 (Category B). There is no list price, as the new-car list has no Sylphy on sale.
