Nissan Cube in Singapore, costs to keep and insure the 4WD version

What a Nissan Cube 4WD costs in Singapore each year: road tax, COE category and dated insurance prices, including a higher figure for older drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Nissan Cube is an unusual-looking car, and it has some unusual insurance results too. For older drivers in particular, the price moves in a way many cars do not. This guide walks through road tax, the COE category and car insurance.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They are a guide to the market, not your quote.

The Cube on our form

Our quote form prices the Cube 4WD, with a 1,498cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, and the one all figures here are for.

The new-car list read for this guide has no entry for the Cube on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type to give.

COE category

The Cube 4WD has a 1,498cc engine. The category it needs depends on power:

  • Category A: if power is 97kW (130bhp) or less. S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round.
  • Category B: if power is more. S$130,100 in the same round.

A used Cube keeps the COE it already carries. The years left on it matter. The COE page has the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,498cc engine S$683.08 a year, before any surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

From the tenth year, a surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page covers other engine sizes.

Car insurance for the standard driver

The Nissan Cube price page prices one case:

  • Car: Cube 4WD, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

11 insurers price it, across 20 plans. The lowest premium is S$735.71. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,123.47. That is S$387.76 more, or 53% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That spread is narrower than for many cars. Even so, the top lowest-plan figure is half as much again as the bottom one. Five insurers on the panel have no online price for the Cube, so fewer quotes are open to you.

What to check on the excess

Eleven of the 20 plans carry an S$600 excess. One carries S$500 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.

The second-lowest premium, S$783.58, carries an S$2,500 excess. So a small saving on premium can mean a much larger bill if you claim. Three plans are estimates, which can change once the insurer has your details.

How the price reacts

One change at a time, the price page shows the lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$932.19, S$196.48 more
  • 20% NCD: S$932.19, S$196.48 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$932.19, S$196.48 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$803.97, S$68.26 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$740.85, S$5.14 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$700.27, S$35.44 less

NCD: with none, the lowest price is 27% higher. That is still the biggest change.

Older driver: unlike many cars, the lowest price rises for a 65-year-old, by S$68.26. One fewer insurer prices that driver too. If an older family member will be the main driver, get quotes with their details.

Car age: a new Cube costs only a few dollars more than a 3-year-old one at the lowest price. An 8-year-old Cube costs less.

These are lowest prices only; dearer plans can move differently.

Similar cars on the price page

The price page compares six cars with similar engines, for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Cube costs about the same. Three of the six are cheaper to insure: the Corolla Altis, the Sienta and the Freed. The other three cost more. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: a narrower spread between insurers than many cars
  • For: losing your NCD adds less here than for many cars
  • Against: five insurers have no online price
  • Against: a higher lowest price for older drivers

Costs that depend on you

These have no single figure:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus elsewhere
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and travel times
  • Servicing: the maker's schedule, and wear parts over time
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you buy one

  • COE expiry: check the date and years left
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge
  • Service record: ask what has been done
  • Your own quotes: especially if the main driver is older or newer to driving
