A Nissan Latio is a small sedan you will find on Singapore's used market. If you are pricing one, its yearly costs are modest next to many cars. This guide sets out road tax, the COE category and car insurance, with the figures the price page gives.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Use them to compare, not as your quote.
Latio versions
Our quote form lists two, both with the same engine size:
- Latio 1.5: 1,498cc
- Latio 1.5 SPRT: 1,498cc
The price page prices the Latio 1.5, the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no Latio on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.
COE category
For the Latio 1.5, with its 1,498cc engine, the category turns on power:
- Category A: if power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
- Category B: if power is more
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. The COE page has the latest. On a used Latio, the COE stays with the car until it expires.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,498cc engine S$683.08 a year before any age surcharge. It was checked on 2026-10-19.
When the car is more than 10 years old, a surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Both versions share the same engine size, so the road tax is the same for each. The road tax page has the formula.
Car insurance for the standard driver
The Nissan Latio price page prices this case:
- Car: Latio 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
13 insurers price it, across 19 plans. The lowest premium is S$586.41. That plan allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,317.87. That is S$731.46 more, or 125% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on the panel have no online price for the Latio. The gap between the rest is wide. The same car and driver can cost more than double from one to another.
Excess
The excess is less uniform here than on many cars. Six of the 19 plans carry S$600. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none.
The second-lowest premium, S$752.37, carries an S$2,500 excess. Four plans are estimates, which may change once your details are in. Weigh each premium against its excess.
How the lowest price changes
The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$956.57, S$370.16 more
- 20% NCD: S$956.57, S$370.16 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$956.57, S$370.16 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$586.41, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
- Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less
Losing your NCD adds 63% to the lowest price. It is the costliest change shown.
A young driver with 30% NCD pays the same lowest price as a driver with no NCD.
An older driver with a long record pays the same as the standard driver, though one fewer insurer quotes.
An older car costs less to insure at the lowest price. For a used Latio, the 8-year-old line may be closest to your case.
These are lowest prices only.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Mercedes-Benz GLB: S$787.96
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Latio is 20% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Sienta is the closest. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page ranks more models.
