Nissan Dualis in Singapore, a look at road tax, COE and insurance costs

The Nissan Dualis 2.0 S in Singapore: Category B COE, yearly road tax and dated car insurance prices, and why a 65-year-old driver may pay more.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Nissan Dualis is now a used-market car in Singapore. With a 2.0-litre engine, it sits in COE Category B and pays road tax to match. This guide sets out those costs and what car insurance looks like for different drivers.

Every insurance price is an example for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own quote depends on your details.

The version on the quote form

Our quote form prices the Dualis 2.0 S (A), with a 1,997cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote.

The new-car list read for this guide has no Dualis on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.

The COE

The Dualis 2.0 S (A) has a 1,997cc engine, above 1,600cc. That puts it in Category B, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

On a used car, the COE goes with the car until it expires. The COE page shows the latest results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,997cc engine S$1,208.58 a year, before any age surcharge. The figure was checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars pay more:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The road tax page has the formula.

What insurance costs

The Nissan Dualis price page prices this case:

  • Car: Dualis 2.0 S (A), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

13 insurers price it, across 23 plans. The lowest premium is S$882.31. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,477.42. That is S$595.11 more, or 67% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Three insurers on the panel have no online price for the Dualis. That still leaves a good number of quotes to compare. The dearest plans cost more than twice the lowest, so the choice of plan matters as much as the choice of insurer.

The excess

Eleven of the 23 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. No plan here is without an excess.

The second-lowest premium, S$904.60, comes with an S$2,500 excess. The third, S$983.85, carries S$500. Four plans are estimates. So the plans nearest the lowest price differ a lot once you look past the premium.

How the lowest price changes

The price page reruns the lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,097.98, S$215.67 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,097.98, S$215.67 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,097.98, S$215.67 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$964.19, S$81.88 more
  • New car, registered this year: S$865.35, S$16.96 less
  • Car 8 years old: S$839.82, S$42.49 less

Three points stand out.

  1. The NCD matters most. With none, the lowest price is 24% higher.
  2. An older driver pays more. At 65 with a long record, the lowest price rises by S$81.88, and one fewer insurer quotes.
  3. Both a new and an older car cost less than the 3-year-old car at the lowest price. That is unusual, and a reason to price your own car at its real age.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans can move by other amounts.

Against similar cars

The price page sets the Dualis beside six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Dualis is 2% above it. Four of the six are cheaper to insure: the Harrier, the Voxy, the E-Class and the 5 Series. The two Lexus models cost more. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: losing your NCD adds less here than for many cars
  • For: an older car costs less to insure at the lowest price
  • Against: four of six similar cars cost less to insure
  • Against: a higher lowest price for an older main driver

What else to budget for

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking elsewhere
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and times
  • Servicing: wear items such as tyres, brakes and battery; ask for records
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Checks before a deposit

  • COE expiry: on the papers, with the years left
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: what has been replaced
  • Your own quote: especially for an older main driver
