Nissan Almera in Singapore, what it costs to own and insure

The Nissan Almera 1.5 in Singapore: road tax, COE category and dated car insurance prices, plus how it compares with six similar cars.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

If you want a sedan with a 1.5-litre engine and modest running costs, the Nissan Almera is one to price. This guide goes through what the facts can show: road tax, car insurance and the COE category.

The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Use them to see the range, not as your own quote.

Almera versions you can quote

The new-car list read for this guide has no Almera on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here. Our quote form lists three versions:

  • Almera 1.5: 1,497cc
  • Almera 1.6: 1,597cc
  • Almera 1.8: 1,769cc

The price page prices the Almera 1.5, the version most insurers quote. All figures below are for it.

COE

For the Almera 1.5, with its 1,497cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A if the power is 97kW (130bhp) or less: S$130,001 in the October 2026 1st round
  • Category B if it is more: S$130,100 in the same round

COE results move each round, and the COE page has the latest. On a used car, check how many years the current COE has left.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,497cc engine S$682.50 a year, before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

Once the car is past 10 years old, a surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The 1.6 and 1.8 versions have bigger engines and higher road tax. The road tax page shows their figures.

Car insurance today

The Nissan Almera price page prices a standard case:

  • Car: Almera 1.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

For that case, 15 insurers price the car, across 25 plans. The lowest premium is S$586.41. That plan allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,317.87. That is S$731.46 more, or 125% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

In other words, the same Almera and driver can cost more than twice as much from one insurer as from another. Only one insurer on the panel has no online price for this model.

Excess and estimates

Twelve of the 25 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. At the high end, three carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One plan has no excess.

The second-lowest premium, S$752.37, comes with an S$2,500 excess. Four plans are estimates, which can change once the insurer has your details. A low premium is only half the picture. If you ever claim, the excess is the part you pay.

How the lowest price changes

The price page reruns the lowest price with one change:

  • No NCD (0%): S$922.38, S$335.97 more
  • 20% NCD: S$922.38, S$335.97 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$922.38, S$335.97 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$586.41, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

The NCD has the largest effect. With none, the lowest price is 57% higher. The young-driver line comes out at the same figure.

An older driver with a long record pays the same lowest price, though one fewer insurer quotes. An 8-year-old Almera costs a little less to insure at the lowest price. A new one costs a little more. These lines show the lowest price only.

Against similar cars

The price page lines up six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Almera is 20% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Sienta comes closest. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page. The cheapest cars to insure page shows where other models sit.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: lower than all six similar cars at the lowest price
  • For: almost the whole panel prices it
  • Against: losing your NCD adds S$335.97 at the lowest price
  • Against: a very wide range between insurers

Costs that depend on you

These vary too much between owners for one figure:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus work and town parking
  • Petrol: how far you drive and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and timing
  • Servicing and parts: tyres, brakes and battery come due over the years; ask for the service record on a used car
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Nissan Almera 1.5, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$682.50 a year before any age surcharge (checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$586.41 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$922.38
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$545.00

For reference, the October 2026 1st round COE was S$130,001 in Category A and S$130,100 in Category B.
