Nissan Sunny in Singapore, what it costs in road tax and insurance

The Nissan Sunny 1.5 (A) in Singapore: road tax of S$620.90 a year, its COE category and dated car insurance prices for several drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

A Nissan Sunny has modest yearly costs on Singapore roads, at least on the items the facts can show. Road tax is moderate, and the lowest insurance price for an experienced driver is low. This guide goes through both, with the COE category.

All insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Use them to compare, not as your quote.

Sunny versions

Our quote form lists two:

  • Sunny 1.5 (A): 1,392cc
  • Sunny 1.6: 1,597cc

The price page prices the Sunny 1.5 (A), the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no Sunny on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here.

COE

For the Sunny 1.5 (A), with its 1,392cc engine, the category depends on power:

  • Category A: if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
  • Category B: if it is more

Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The COE page has the latest. On a used Sunny, the existing COE stays with the car.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,392cc engine S$620.90 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

When the car passes 10 years old, a surcharge applies:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The Sunny 1.6 has a bigger engine and pays more. See the road tax page.

Car insurance today

The Nissan Sunny price page prices this case:

  • Car: Sunny 1.5 (A), registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

13 insurers price it, across 23 plans. The lowest premium is S$586.41, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,187.17. That is S$600.76 more, or 102% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

In plain terms, the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs about twice the lowest. Three insurers on the panel have no online price for the Sunny.

The excess

Twelve of the 23 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Two carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. Every plan here has an excess.

The lowest premium stands some way clear of the next, at S$788.88. Four plans are estimates, so their final price can change once your details are in.

How the price moves

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$959.64, S$373.23 more
  • 20% NCD: S$959.64, S$373.23 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$959.64, S$373.23 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$586.41, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$604.07, S$17.66 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$545.00, S$41.41 less

NCD: with none, the lowest price is 64% higher. This is the change that costs most.

Young driver: at 27 with 30% NCD, the lowest price is the same as with no NCD.

Older driver: a 65-year-old with a long record pays the same, though one fewer insurer quotes.

Car age: an 8-year-old Sunny costs less to insure at the lowest price, and a new one slightly more.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move differently.

Against similar cars

The price page lines up six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$735.99. The Sunny is 20% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page, and the cheapest cars to insure page lists more.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: below all six similar cars at the lowest price
  • For: an older car costs less to insure at the lowest price
  • Against: losing your NCD adds S$373.23 at the lowest price
  • Against: a big step from the lowest plan to the next

Costs that depend on you

These vary from owner to owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and travel times
  • Servicing: tyres, brakes and battery over the years; ask for the record
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Checks before you buy

  • COE expiry date: on the papers
  • Registration date: it decides the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: ask what has been replaced
  • Your own insurance quotes: with your NCD and age
