The Nissan Serena is an MPV made in Japan, and it is still on the new-car list. So you can price it new or used. This guide covers what the facts can show: list prices, the COE category, road tax and car insurance.
Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. List prices are as listed on 2026-10-10. Neither is a quote for you.
Versions on sale and on our form
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 has six versions on sale. All are petrol-electric e-POWER hybrids with a 1,433cc engine and 161bhp:
- e-POWER Hybrid 1.4 Highway Star V 8-Seater
- e-POWER Hybrid 1.4 Highway Star V 7-Seater
- e-POWER Hybrid 1.4 XV Welcab Lift 6-Seater
- e-POWER Hybrid Highway Star Prestige 7-Seater [SingleTone]
- e-POWER Hybrid Highway Star Prestige 7
- e-POWER Hybrid Highway Star Smart 8
Our quote form lists three versions: the Serena 1.2 (1,198cc), the Serena 2.0 (2,000cc) and the Serena e-Power Hybrid (1,433cc). The price page prices the Serena 2.0, the version most insurers quote. The insurance, COE and road tax figures below are for that car, not the e-POWER.
The price to buy new
As listed on 2026-10-10, with COE included in the list price that day:
- Highway Star V 8-Seater: S$215,000
- Highway Star V 7-Seater: S$220,800
- XV Welcab Lift 6-Seater: S$225,200
- Highway Star Prestige 7-Seater [SingleTone]: S$226,800
- Highway Star Prestige 7: S$231,800
- Highway Star Smart 8: S$234,800
These prices move with every COE round. Check what each offer includes before you compare totals.
The COE
The Serena 2.0's 2,000cc engine is above 1,600cc. That puts the Serena 2.0 in Category B, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. The price page states no category for the e-POWER versions. The COE page has the latest round results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the Serena 2.0's 2,000cc engine S$1,212.10 a year, before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.
Older cars pay a surcharge:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The e-POWER's 1,433cc engine and the 1.2 have smaller engines, so their road tax is lower. The road tax page works it out.
Car insurance for the standard driver
The Nissan Serena price page prices this case:
- Car: Serena 2.0, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
15 insurers price it, across 25 plans. The lowest premium is S$721.59, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,642.01. That is S$920.42 more, or 128% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Only one insurer on the panel has no online price for the Serena.
Excess
Twelve of the 25 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000 and one none. Four plans are estimates, which can change once your details are in.
How the price changes
The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,049.80, S$328.21 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,049.80, S$328.21 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,049.80, S$328.21 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$721.59, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$742.90, S$21.31 more
- Car 8 years old: S$660.69, S$60.90 less
Losing the NCD lifts the lowest price by 45%, the biggest change. A 27-year-old with 30% NCD pays the same figure. A 65-year-old pays the same as the standard driver, with one fewer insurer quoting. An older Serena costs less to insure at the lowest price.
These are lowest prices only; other plans can move differently.
Against similar cars
The price page compares six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:
- Toyota Harrier: S$742.90
- Mercedes-Benz E-Class: S$861.03
- BMW 5 Series: S$861.03
- Toyota Voxy: S$793.75
- Lexus NX: S$972.39
- Lexus RX: S$972.39
Their average lowest price is S$867.25. The Serena 2.0 is 17% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
These vary from owner to owner:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking elsewhere
- Petrol: depends on your distance and the pump price; the e-POWER versions use an electric motor as well as petrol
- ERP: your routes and times
- Servicing and repairs: follow the maker's schedule; ask what the warranty and any service package cover
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay and what the car fetches later
