The Nissan Presage has a 2.5-litre engine, which sets two of its main costs in Singapore: a Category B COE and road tax well above a small car's. Insurance for an experienced driver starts lower than you might guess. This guide sets out the figures.
The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details.
The Presage on our form
Our quote form prices the Presage 2.5, with a 2,488cc engine. It is the version most insurers quote, and the only one here.
The new-car list read for this guide has no Presage on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type. Any Presage you buy will be a used car.
COE category
The Presage 2.5's 2,488cc engine is above 1,600cc. That means a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
The COE stays with a used car until it ends. When it does, the car must be renewed or taken off the road. The COE page has the latest results.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 2,488cc engine S$1,784.52 a year, before any age surcharge. It was checked on 2026-10-19.
The surcharge for older cars:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Since a used Presage may be past 10 years old, check the registration date to see which band applies. The road tax page has the formula.
Insurance for the standard driver
The Nissan Presage price page prices this case:
- Car: Presage 2.5, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
13 insurers price it, across 22 plans. The lowest premium is S$742.90, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,448.56. That is S$705.66 more, or 95% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Three insurers on the panel have no online price for the Presage. The other 13 still give a wide spread to compare.
Excess
Ten of the 22 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. Every plan here has an excess.
The second-lowest premium, S$849.06, carries S$600, the same as the lowest. The third, S$971.89, carries S$2,500. Four plans are estimates, which can change once the insurer has your details.
What moves the price
The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,133.43, S$390.53 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,133.43, S$390.53 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,133.43, S$390.53 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$742.90, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
- Car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less
- The NCD counts most. With none, the lowest price is 53% higher.
- A young driver with 30% NCD pays that same higher figure.
- An older driver with a long record pays the same as the standard driver, though one fewer insurer quotes.
- An older car costs less to insure at the lowest price.
These are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by different amounts.
The Presage beside similar cars
The price page compares six cars with engines of a similar size, same driver and car age:
- Toyota Camry: S$841.31
- Toyota Alphard: S$764.82
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Mitsubishi Outlander: S$861.03
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The Presage is 17% below that, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Alphard and Vellfire are the closest. More Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page.
Pros and cons on insurance cost
- For: below all six similar cars at the lowest price
- For: the two lowest plans both carry an S$600 excess
- Against: losing your NCD adds S$390.53 at the lowest price
- Against: road tax of S$1,784.52 a year before any surcharge
Costs you set yourself
These have no single figure:
- Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus parking at work and in town
- Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
- ERP: your routes and timing
- Servicing: an older car needs wear items replaced; ask for the record
- Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left
A checklist for a used Presage
- COE expiry date: it sets how long you can keep the car
- Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
- Service record: what has been done and what is due
- Your own quotes: with your own NCD and the main driver's age
