Nissan Murano in Singapore, what road tax and car insurance add up to

The Nissan Murano 2.5 in Singapore: Category B COE, road tax of S$1,784.52 a year and dated insurance prices, with a big rise for drivers with no NCD.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Nissan Murano comes with large engines, and in Singapore that puts it in COE Category B with road tax to match. Its insurance tells a mixed story: a modest lowest price for an experienced driver, but a steep rise without a no-claim discount. This guide sets out the figures.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own price depends on your details.

Murano versions

Our quote form lists two:

  • Murano 2.5 2WD CVT Sunroof: 2,488cc
  • Murano 3.5 2WD CVT Sunroof: 3,488cc

The price page prices the 2.5, the version most insurers quote. The new-car list read for this guide has no Murano on sale now, so this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.

COE

The Murano 2.5's 2,488cc engine is above 1,600cc. That needs a Category B COE, which closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.

A used Murano already carries its COE. The years left on it count for a lot in what the car is worth to you. The COE page shows recent results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 2,488cc engine S$1,784.52 a year, before any surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars pay a surcharge on top:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

On this base, each step is a large sum. The 3.5 starts from a much higher base again. The road tax page has the details.

Car insurance: what you'll pay

The Nissan Murano price page prices this case:

  • Car: Murano 2.5 2WD CVT Sunroof, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

14 insurers price it, across 22 plans. The lowest premium is S$742.90, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,485.79. That is S$742.89 more, or 100% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

Put plainly, the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs twice the lowest premium. Two insurers on the panel have no online price for the Murano.

Excess

Twelve of the 22 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. One carries S$2,500 and one has none.

The third-lowest premium, S$962.88, is the plan with the S$2,500 excess. Four plans are estimates, so their final price may change once your details are in.

How the price changes

The price page shows the lowest price with one change at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,235.12, S$492.22 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,235.12, S$492.22 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,235.12, S$492.22 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$742.90, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less

The NCD effect is strong on this car. Without it, the lowest price is 66% higher. A 27-year-old with a 30% NCD meets the same figure. If a younger driver or a driver who has just claimed will be the main driver, the headline price will not apply.

An older driver with a long record pays the same, with one fewer insurer quoting. An older car is cheaper to insure at the lowest price.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

Against similar cars

The price page compares six cars with engines of a similar size, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$892.30. The Murano is 17% below it, and none of the six is cheaper to insure. The Alphard and Vellfire come closest. Other Nissan models are on the Nissan car insurance page.

Pros and cons on insurance cost

  • For: below all six similar cars at the lowest price
  • For: an older car costs less to insure at the lowest price
  • Against: losing your NCD adds S$492.22 at the lowest price
  • Against: road tax of S$1,784.52 a year before any surcharge

Costs that depend on you

These vary by owner:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town
  • Petrol: a large engine, your mileage and the pump price all count
  • ERP: your routes and travel times
  • Servicing: wear items such as tyres, brakes and battery; ask for the record
  • Depreciation: what you pay against the COE years left

Before you buy

  • COE expiry date: and how many years remain
  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge band
  • Service history: what has been replaced
  • Quotes for the real main driver: their NCD changes the price most
