A Mitsubishi Outlander with a 2.4-litre class engine sits in a higher road tax band than a small family car. If you own one, or are weighing up a used one, the yearly bills add up fast. This guide sets them out: road tax first, then the COE it carries, then car insurance.
The new-car list read on 2026-10-10 had no Outlander on sale. So there is no list price here. All insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026.
Outlanders on our quote form
Our quote form lists eight Outlander versions:
- 2.0 CVT and 2.0 Di-D: 1,998cc
- 24G DBA-CW5W: 2,359cc
- ES and SE: 2,360cc
- XLS AWD: 2,374cc
- 2.4: 2,397cc
- LS: 2,998cc
The figures below are for the Outlander ES (2,360cc). That is the version most of our insurers price.
Road tax, the largest fixed yearly bill
Road tax follows engine size. For the ES's 2,360cc engine, LTA's formula gives S$1,634.38 a year, before any age surcharge. This was checked on 2026-10-19.
That figure rises once the car passes 10 years:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
The 2.0 versions have smaller engines and pay less. The LS, at 2,998cc, pays more. The road tax page gives the figure for each size.
The COE it carries
The price page's COE section says the Outlander ES, with a 2,360cc engine above 1,600cc, needs a Category B COE. Category B closed at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
A used Outlander carries the COE it was registered with. When that runs out, the owner must renew it or deregister the car. The COE page shows each round's results.
Car insurance for a settled driver
The Mitsubishi Outlander price page prices one driver and one car:
- Car: Outlander ES, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving for 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% NCD, no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
15 insurers price this case. The lowest premium is S$861.03. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,665.18. That is S$804.15 more, or 93% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
One insurer on our panel has no online price for the Outlander yet.
Excess
Most plans here carry an excess of S$500, S$600, S$750 or S$800. Some carry S$2,500 or S$3,000, and one carries S$0. The second-lowest premium, at S$1,034.13, comes with a S$2,500 excess. Read the excess next to the premium every time.
Changes that move the premium
The lowest price, with one thing changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,149.42, S$288.39 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,149.42, S$288.39 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,149.42, S$288.39 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$861.03, the same
- A new car, registered this year: S$886.61, S$25.58 more
- A car 8 years old: S$787.96, S$73.07 less
The NCD is the lever that matters. Without it, the lowest price is 33% higher. A younger driver with a 30% NCD lands on the same figure.
Car age works the other way. The 8-year-old Outlander costs less to insure than the 3-year-old one. Bear in mind that some insurers stop pricing older cars online past a certain age.
These are lowest prices only. Higher plans can move by different amounts.
Next to similar cars
The price page sets six similar cars beside the Outlander, for the same driver and car age:
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08, from 3 insurers
- Audi RS 3 Sportback: S$1,310.08, from 4 insurers
- Toyota Camry: S$841.31
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Toyota Alphard: S$764.82
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
They average S$967.14. The Outlander is 11% below that. Even so, four of the six are cheaper to insure. The average is pulled up by the two Audis, which few insurers price. Other models from the make are on the Mitsubishi car insurance page.
Costs that depend on you
- Petrol: a larger engine and your yearly distance both shape the bill. Only you can estimate it.
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking at work and in town.
- ERP: set by where you drive and when.
- Servicing: follow the maker's schedule. On an older car, ask for the records and budget for tyres, brakes and a battery.
- Depreciation: depends on what you pay and how many years are left on the COE.
Before you take on a used Outlander
- Check the COE expiry: it sets how long you can keep the car without renewing.
- Check the registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge and the insurance age band.
- Price the insurance first: get a quote for the exact version and year.
- Bring your NCD: it is the biggest single factor in the price here.
