Any Mitsubishi Grandis you find in Singapore now will be a used car. The new-car list has no entry for it. That makes the running costs the figures that matter, and the large engine puts road tax near the top of the list.
This guide sets out road tax, the COE category and car insurance. The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Use them to compare, not as your quote.
Grandis versions
Our quote form lists two versions:
- Grandis 2.4: 2,376cc
- Grandis 2.4 MIVEC: 2,378cc
The price page prices the Grandis 2.4, the version most insurers quote. With no new-car list entry, this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.
The COE
The Grandis 2.4 has a 2,376cc engine, above 1,600cc. That means a Category B COE. In the October 2026 1st round, Category B closed at S$130,100.
A used Grandis comes with its COE already paid. What you are buying is the time left on it. When it ends, the car must be renewed or taken off the road. The COE page shows recent results.
Road tax is the big fixed cost
LTA's formula gives the 2,376cc engine S$1,653.14 a year, before any surcharge. The figure was checked on 2026-10-19.
Many cars of this model will be past the 10-year mark, so the surcharge needs a close look:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
On a road tax base this large, each step is a real sum. Check the car's registration date so you know which band it is in. The road tax page has the details.
What insurance costs for the standard driver
The Mitsubishi Grandis price page prices one case:
- Car: Grandis 2.4, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons
14 insurers price that case, with 22 plans between them. The lowest premium is S$861.03. That plan allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,665.18. The gap is S$804.15, or 93% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
Two insurers on the panel have no online price for the Grandis. For an older model, that is still a broad choice.
Excess on the plans
Ten of the 22 plans carry an S$600 excess, the most common figure. Two carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three plans carry S$2,500 and one S$3,000. One carries no excess at all.
Four plans are estimates. Their final price can move once your details are in. Weigh the excess with the premium, as a lower premium can come with a much higher excess.
How the price changes
These are the price page's lowest prices with one change each:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,158.89, S$297.86 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,158.89, S$297.86 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$1,158.89, S$297.86 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$861.03, the same
- New car, registered this year: S$886.61, S$25.58 more
- Car 8 years old: S$787.96, S$73.07 less
NCD: losing it lifts the lowest price by 35%, the biggest change here.
Young driver: the lowest price for a 27-year-old with 30% NCD matches the no-NCD figure.
Older driver: a 65-year-old with a long record pays the same lowest price, though one fewer insurer prices them.
Car age: an 8-year-old Grandis costs less to insure at the lowest price. That helps a used buyer. These figures are lowest prices only.
The Grandis against similar cars
The price page sets six cars with engines of a similar size beside the Grandis, same driver and car age:
- Toyota Camry: S$841.31
- Toyota Alphard: S$764.82
- Toyota Vellfire: S$764.82
- Honda Odyssey: S$811.71
- Audi RS 3 Sedan: S$1,310.08
- Audi RS 3 Sportback: S$1,310.08
Their average lowest price is S$967.14, and the Grandis is 11% below it. That average is pulled up by the two Audi models. Four of the six, all from Toyota and Honda, cost less to insure than the Grandis. More Mitsubishi cars are on the Mitsubishi car insurance page.
Costs that are yours to estimate
These vary too much between owners to give one figure:
- Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, and elsewhere
- Petrol: your mileage and the pump price
- ERP: your routes and travel times
- Servicing: follow the maker's schedule; older cars tend to need more parts
- Depreciation: the price you pay set against the COE years left
Before you buy one
A short checklist for a used Grandis:
- COE expiry date: on the papers; it sets how long the car can stay on the road
- Registration date: it decides the road tax surcharge band
- Service history: what has been replaced and what is due
- Your own insurance quote: get it before you pay a deposit
