Owning a Mitsubishi Colt in Singapore and what it costs to insure

The Mitsubishi Colt's yearly costs in Singapore: COE category, road tax on the 1.1 and dated insurance prices for young, older and standard drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

A Mitsubishi Colt is a small car with a small engine, and that shows up in its yearly bills. This guide sets out what you can expect to pay for road tax and car insurance, and which COE category applies.

Every insurance figure is an example for a single stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Use them to see the range and what changes it, not as your own price.

Colt versions you can quote

The new-car list read for this guide has no Colt on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here. Our quote form still lists four versions for cars already on the road:

  • Colt 1.1: 1,124cc
  • Colt 1.3: 1,322cc
  • Colt 1.5: 1,499cc
  • Colt Turbo Version-R: 1,468cc

The price page prices the Colt 1.1, the version most insurers quote. The figures below are for that car. A larger engine will change the road tax and may change the premium.

Which COE it needs

For the Colt 1.1, with its 1,124cc engine, the COE category comes down to power:

  • Category A if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
  • Category B if its power is more

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Prices move every round, and the COE page has the latest. A used Colt keeps whatever COE it already carries, so check the expiry date before you agree a price.

Road tax

Road tax follows the size of the engine. For the 1,124cc Colt 1.1, LTA's formula gives S$463.72 a year before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

Once a car is more than 10 years old, a surcharge is added:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The other Colt versions have bigger engines, so their road tax is higher. You can work out any engine size on the road tax page.

The insurance spread for the standard driver

The Mitsubishi Colt price page prices this driver and car:

  • Car: Colt 1.1, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

For that driver, 12 insurers give a price, across 19 plans. The lowest is S$666.79, on a plan that allows any workshop or authorised workshops. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,370.62. That is S$703.83 more, or 106% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

In plain terms, the same Colt and the same driver can cost about twice as much from one insurer as from another. Four insurers on the panel have no online price for this model.

The excess on each plan

The excess is your share of any claim. Ten of the 19 plans carry S$600. Two carry S$500, three carry S$800, and one carries none. At the top end, two plans carry S$2,500 and one carries S$3,000. Three plans are estimates, so their final price can change once your details are in.

How the lowest price changes

These are the price page's lowest prices when one detail changes:

  • No NCD (0%): S$981.17, S$314.38 more
  • 20% NCD: S$981.17, S$314.38 more
  • Aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$981.17, S$314.38 more
  • Aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$666.79, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$700.28, S$33.49 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$622.34, S$44.45 less

Losing your NCD adds 47% to the lowest price, the largest change here. A young driver with a partial NCD meets the same lowest price.

An older driver with a long record pays the same as the standard driver, though one fewer insurer prices them. And an older Colt costs less to insure than a newer one at the lowest price. Dearer plans can move by different amounts, so compare a few.

Insurance against similar small cars

The price page lines the Colt up against six cars with similar engines, for the same driver and car age:

The average of those is S$630.64. The Colt sits 6% above it, and five of the six cost less to insure. Only the Chery A1 costs more. So a small engine does not by itself mean the lowest insurance. Other Mitsubishi models are on the Mitsubishi car insurance page.

What depends on how you use the car

A few costs are too personal to put a number on:

  • Parking: HDB or condo season parking, plus what you pay elsewhere
  • Petrol: your mileage and the pump price decide it
  • ERP: your routes and the hours you travel decide it
  • Servicing: follow the maker's schedule; ask a seller for the record
  • Depreciation: tied to what you pay and the COE years left

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Mitsubishi Colt 1.1, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$463.72 a year before any age surcharge (checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, standard driver: from S$666.79 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$981.17
  • Insurance, a car 8 years old: from S$622.34

For reference, the COE in the October 2026 1st round was S$130,001 in Category A or S$130,100 in Category B.
