Mitsubishi Lancer in Singapore, costs to own and insure one today

The Mitsubishi Lancer in Singapore: five engine sizes, road tax on the 1.3, COE category and a very wide spread of car insurance prices, dated.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Lancer was sold in Singapore with several engine sizes, and you will still see many on the roads. If you are pricing a used one, the costs you can plan for are road tax and car insurance. This guide covers both, along with the COE.

The insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show where the market sits and what moves it. Your own price depends on your answers.

Five engine sizes on the quote form

The new-car list read for this guide has no Lancer on sale now. So there is no list price, power figure or body type here. Our quote form lists five versions:

  • Lancer 1.3: 1,299cc
  • Lancer 1.5: 1,499cc
  • Lancer 1.6: 1,584cc
  • Lancer 1.8: 1,798cc
  • Lancer 2.0: 1,999cc

The price page prices the Lancer 1.3, the version most insurers quote. The figures below are for that car. The bigger engines pay more road tax, and their premiums may differ too.

Which COE applies

For the Lancer 1.3, with its 1,299cc engine, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A: if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
  • Category B: if it has more

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. Results change every round; the COE page has them. A used Lancer keeps the COE it carries, so the date it ends matters when you agree a price.

Road tax on the 1.3

LTA's formula gives the 1,299cc engine S$566.36 a year, before any age surcharge. That was checked on 2026-10-19.

The surcharge begins once a car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

A Lancer with a larger engine starts from a higher base. Look up the exact figure on the road tax page.

Insurance: a spread worth knowing about

The Mitsubishi Lancer price page prices this driver and car:

  • Car: Lancer 1.3, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

15 insurers price it, across 23 plans. The lowest premium is S$660.69, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,672.67. That is S$2,011.98 more, or 305% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

That is an unusually wide gap. The dearest plan is also the only one with no excess. Most other plans sit well below it. Only one insurer on the panel has no online price for the Lancer.

Excess against premium

Ten of the 23 plans carry an S$600 excess. Three carry S$500, two S$750 and three S$800. Three carry S$2,500, one S$3,000, and one, the dearest, none at all.

The second-lowest premium, S$770.22, comes with an S$2,500 excess. So the plans just above the lowest are not all alike. Four plans are estimates, whose price can change once you give your details.

How the lowest price moves

With one detail changed at a time:

  • No NCD (0%): S$932.05, S$271.36 more
  • 20% NCD: S$932.05, S$271.36 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$932.05, S$271.36 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$660.69, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$666.79, S$6.10 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$604.07, S$56.62 less

The NCD is the main factor: without it, the lowest price is 41% higher. A young driver lands at the same figure as a driver with no NCD.

Age makes little difference at the lowest price. A 65-year-old pays the same, though one fewer insurer prices them. A new car costs only S$6.10 more. An 8-year-old car costs a little less. These are lowest prices only.

The Lancer beside similar cars

The price page shows six cars with similar engines, for the same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$690.53. The Lancer 1.3 is 4% below it. Three of the six are cheaper to insure: the Jazz, the Yaris Cross and the C-HR. The three Mercedes-Benz models cost more. Other Mitsubishi cars are on the Mitsubishi car insurance page.

Costs set by how you use the car

There is no single figure for these:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus parking elsewhere
  • Petrol: your distance and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and the hours you drive
  • Servicing and parts: older cars need wear items replaced; ask for the record
  • Depreciation: what you pay set against the COE years left

Summary of yearly costs we can show

For the Mitsubishi Lancer 1.3, dated as shown:

  • Road tax: S$566.36 a year before any age surcharge (checked 2026-10-19)

  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$932.05
