What a Mitsubishi Lancer EX costs to run and insure in Singapore

Road tax, COE category and dated car insurance prices for the Mitsubishi Lancer EX 1.6 in Singapore, and how NCD, driver age and car age change them.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Lancer EX is an older sedan that many Singapore buyers now meet on the used market. If that is where you are looking, this guide shows the yearly costs the facts can put a figure on. Those are road tax and car insurance, plus the COE category.

Insurance prices are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They show the spread and what moves it, not what you will pay.

Lancer EX versions

The new-car list read for this guide has no Lancer EX on sale now, so there is no list price, power figure or body type here. Our quote form lists three versions:

  • Lancer EX 1.6 AT: 1,590cc
  • Lancer EX 2.0 GT CVT ABS D/AB HID SR: 1,998cc
  • Lancer EX 2.0 Ralliart: 1,998cc

The price page prices the Lancer EX 1.6 AT, the version most insurers quote. Everything below is for that car. The two 2.0 versions carry a bigger engine, so expect higher road tax.

COE category

The Lancer EX 1.6 AT has a 1,590cc engine. Its COE category depends on its power:

  • Category A: 97kW (130bhp) or less
  • Category B: more than that

Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round. A used Lancer EX already carries its COE, so the expiry date is the thing to check. The COE page lists recent results.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,590cc engine S$737.04 a year before any age surcharge. That figure was checked on 2026-10-19.

Older cars pay a surcharge:

  • Over 10 years old: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

For the 2.0 versions, look up the 1,998cc figure on the road tax page.

Insurance for the standard driver

The Mitsubishi Lancer EX price page prices this case:

  • Car: Lancer EX 1.6 AT, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, 10 to 19 years of driving
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no add-ons

15 insurers price the case, across 23 plans. The lowest premium is S$721.59, on a plan that allows any workshop or an authorised one. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$2,672.67. That is S$1,951.08 more, or 270% on top. All prices include 9% GST.

The spread is very wide. The dearest plan is the only one with no excess. Most plans sit between the lowest price and that top figure, a long way below it. Only one insurer on the panel has no online price for the Lancer EX.

Reading the excess

The excess is the part of a claim you pay. Across the 23 plans:

  • S$600: ten plans
  • S$500: three plans
  • S$750: two plans
  • S$800: three plans
  • S$2,500: three plans
  • S$3,000: one plan
  • None: one plan

The second-lowest premium, S$919.61, carries an S$2,500 excess. Four plans are estimates, which can change once the insurer sees your details. Line up premium and excess together when you compare.

How the lowest price shifts

One change at a time, the price page shows:

  • No NCD (0%): S$984.55, S$262.96 more
  • 20% NCD: S$984.55, S$262.96 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years of driving, 30% NCD: S$984.55, S$262.96 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years of driving: S$721.59, the same
  • New car, registered this year: S$742.90, S$21.31 more
  • Car 8 years old: S$660.69, S$60.90 less

Your NCD: going to zero lifts the lowest price by 36%. It is the largest change on the page.

A younger driver: aged 27 with 30% NCD, the lowest price matches the no-NCD figure.

An older driver: aged 65 with a long record, the price holds, but one fewer insurer quotes.

The car's age: an 8-year-old Lancer EX costs less to insure at the lowest price than a 3-year-old one.

These are lowest prices only. Dearer plans may move by other amounts.

Against similar cars

The price page lists six cars with similar engines, same driver and car age:

Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The Lancer EX costs about the same as that average. Three of the six are cheaper to insure: the Corolla Altis, the Sienta and the Freed. The Kona matches it exactly. Other Mitsubishi models are on the Mitsubishi car insurance page.

Costs that depend on you

No single figure fits these:

  • Parking: season parking at your HDB block or condo, plus elsewhere
  • Petrol: how far you drive and the pump price
  • ERP: your routes and timing
  • Upkeep: tyres, brakes and battery come due on an older car; ask for the service record
  • Depreciation: the price you pay set against the COE years left

Summary of yearly costs we can show
