The SLC180 is a Mercedes-Benz with a 1,595cc engine. It is not on the new-car list now, so in Singapore you would buy one used. If you plan to keep it as a second car, its fixed yearly bills are worth a close look, since they stay the same however little you use it. This guide sets out the road tax, the car insurance and the COE rule.
The insurance figures are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. Your own price will depend on your details.
The car on our form
There is no entry for the SLC180 on the new-car list now. So this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type from it.
Our quote form prices the SLC180 with its 1,595cc petrol engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote.
COE
With a 1,595cc engine, power decides the category. The SLC180 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.
In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. For a used car, the COE is paid already. The years left on it are part of the price. The COE page has later rounds.
Road tax
LTA's formula gives the 1,595cc engine S$739.96 a year, before any age surcharge.
Once the car passes 10 years, the surcharge applies:
- Over 10 years: +10%
- Over 11 years: +20%
- Over 12 years: +30%
- Over 13 years: +40%
- Over 14 years: +50%
Road tax is the same whether the car is used daily or only at weekends. The road tax page has the formula.
Insurance for the stated driver
The Mercedes-Benz SLC180 price page prices this example:
- Car: SLC180, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
- Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
- Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
- Repairs: authorised workshop, no options
9 insurers price it. Seven on our panel do not price it online. The lowest premium is S$911.88 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,336.77. That is S$424.89 more, or 47% on top. All prices include 9% GST.
That spread is narrower than on many cars, but it is still several hundred dollars a year. With seven insurers missing online, ask them for a quote too. Some prices shown are estimates.
Excess
Here the lowest plan has no excess at all. That is unusual, and it makes the lowest price stronger than it first looks. Most other plans set S$600. Some set S$800, and one asks S$2,500. The excess is what you pay first on a claim.
Plan levels
Several insurers list a basic plan and fuller ones, priced a few hundred dollars apart. The fuller plans may add extras, such as a courtesy car. Compare similar plans across insurers.
Price dates
Each price on the page shows the date it was read. The lowest one here was read more than a week before this guide, so check it is still current.
What moves the price
The lowest price with one detail changed:
- No NCD (0%): S$1,304.93, S$393.05 more
- 20% NCD: S$1,304.93, S$393.05 more
- Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,304.93, S$393.05 more
- Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$1,017.07, S$105.19 more
- A new car, registered this year: S$911.88, the same
- A car 8 years old: S$911.88, the same
Without the NCD, the lowest price is 43% higher. The younger driver lands on the same figure. The older driver pays a little more. Car age makes no difference at the lowest price. These are lowest prices only; other plans may move by different sums.
Against similar cars
For the same driver and car age, the price page compares:
- Toyota Corolla Altis: S$642.42
- Mazda 3: S$927.36
- Toyota Sienta: S$604.07
- BMW X1: S$811.71
- Honda Freed: S$642.42
- Hyundai Kona: S$721.59
Their average lowest price is S$724.93. The SLC180 is 26% above that, and five of the six cost less to insure. Only the Mazda 3 is dearer. These six share a similar engine size, which is why the price page groups them. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the other models.
