What a used Mercedes-Benz B180 Style costs to run and insure

The Mercedes-Benz B180 Style in Singapore: road tax, the COE rule for its engine and dated car insurance prices for different drivers.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The B180 Style was one trim of the older Mercedes-Benz B. Today it is a used buy in Singapore. What you pay to own one comes down to a short list: road tax and insurance each year, plus the COE value built into the price.

The prices below are examples for one stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. Your own premium will depend on your age, record and car. Read these as a guide to how the costs stack up.

The B180 Style on our quote form

There is no B180 Style on the new-car list now. That means no list price, power figure or body type to quote.

Our form prices the B180 Style with its 1,595cc petrol engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote, and every figure below is for it.

The COE question

For a 1,595cc engine like this one, the COE category depends on power:

  • Category A, if power is 97kW (130bhp) or less
  • Category B, if power is more

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. You will not bid for a COE on a used car. But its remaining years are part of the asking price, so check them. See the COE page for newer rounds.

Road tax on a 1,595cc engine

LTA's formula puts road tax at S$739.96 a year for this engine, before any age surcharge.

The surcharge begins when the car is more than 10 years old:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

So the same car pays more road tax each year past that point. The road tax page has the details.

Comprehensive cover for the example driver

The Mercedes-Benz B180 Style price page prices this setup:

  • Car: B180 Style, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: 40 years old, married, works in an office, 10 to 19 years behind a licence
  • Record: 50% NCD, no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options added

14 insurers give a price. The lowest is S$742.90 a year. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,405.26, which is S$662.36 more. In percentage terms, that is 89% on top. Prices include 9% GST.

For the same car and driver, the dearest lowest plan costs close to double the lowest. Several prices are flagged as estimates, so confirm those before you rely on them.

The excess you would carry

When you claim, you pay the excess first. Most plans on this page set S$600. Others choose S$500, S$750 or S$800. One has no excess at all, and one sets S$2,500. That last one is a big sum to find after an accident, so weigh it against the premium saved.

Two insurers on our panel do not yet have an online price for this model.

Which details matter

The price page changes one thing and shows the new lowest price:

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,046.39, S$303.49 higher
  • 20% NCD: S$1,046.39, S$303.49 higher
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,046.39, S$303.49 higher
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, no change
  • A new car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 higher
  • A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 lower

Your NCD weighs most. With none, the lowest price climbs 41%. An older driver with long experience pays the same. And at 8 years old, the car costs less to insure than at 3. These are lowest prices only; other plans may change by more or less.

Compared with six similar cars

For the same driver and car age, the price page shows:

Together they average S$724.93. The B180 Style is 2% above that, and four of the six cost less to insure. It is close to the group, not far from it. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page has the wider range.

Checks worth making on a used one

  • First registration: this date fixes the road tax surcharge and the COE years left.
  • Engine size on the log card: B180s came with more than one engine. A different size means different road tax.
  • Your own quote: the figures above are for one driver. Your NCD, age and experience will change them.

The costs you will set yourself

  • Parking: season parking at home and work, plus short stays elsewhere.
  • Petrol: how far you drive and what the pump charges.
  • ERP: the gantries on your usual routes, at the times you pass them.
  • Repairs and servicing: routine servicing, tyres, brakes and battery. Older cars can need more, so ask what has been done.
  • Depreciation: the gap between what you pay and what you sell for, over the COE years you keep it.

Yearly costs, summed up

For the Mercedes-Benz B180 Style:

  • Road tax: S$739.96 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$742.90 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,046.39
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$666.79

COE, for reference: Category A at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100 in the October 2026 1st round.
