Mercedes-Benz B180 1,595cc costs and insurance in Singapore

Road tax, COE rules and dated car insurance examples for the 1,595cc Mercedes-Benz B180 in Singapore, with what moves the premium.

20 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

The Mercedes-Benz B180 with the 1,595cc engine is a car you will find on the used market, not in showrooms. If you are weighing one up, the costs that recur each year count most. This guide sets out the road tax and car insurance, explains the COE rule for this engine, and lists the costs you will need to price yourself.

Insurance figures here are examples for a single stated driver, read on 20 October 2026. They help you compare. They are not a premium anyone has offered you.

The car being priced

The new-car list has no entry for this B180 on sale now, so this guide gives no list price, power figure or body type.

Our quote form prices the B180 (1595c.c.), with a 1,595cc petrol engine. It is the version most of our insurers quote. Every insurance figure below is for that car.

The COE rule for this engine

At 1,595cc, the category for this engine turns on power. The B180 needs a Category A COE if its power is 97kW (130bhp) or less, and a Category B COE if it is more.

In the October 2026 1st round, Category A closed at S$130,001 and Category B at S$130,100. For a used car, the COE was paid at first registration. The years left on it are priced into what the seller asks. Later results are on the COE page.

Road tax

LTA's formula gives the 1,595cc engine S$739.96 a year in road tax, before any age surcharge.

An older B180 may already be paying a surcharge. It starts after 10 years:

  • Over 10 years: +10%
  • Over 11 years: +20%
  • Over 12 years: +30%
  • Over 13 years: +40%
  • Over 14 years: +50%

The registration date tells you where a car sits on this scale. The road tax page shows the formula for other engines.

The premium for one example driver

The Mercedes-Benz B180 price page uses this case:

  • Car: B180 1,595cc, registered 3 years ago, private use, comprehensive cover
  • Driver: aged 40, married, office job, driving 10 to 19 years
  • Record: 50% no-claim discount (NCD), no claims
  • Repairs: authorised workshop, no options

14 insurers price the car for that driver. The lowest premium is S$742.90. The insurer whose lowest plan is dearest asks at least S$1,405.26. That gap is S$662.36, or 89% on top of the lowest. All prices include 9% GST.

Put simply, the dearest insurer's lowest plan costs nearly twice the lowest premium. Some prices on the page are marked as estimates, so check those with the insurer.

Excess

The excess is what you pay yourself on a claim. On this page it is mostly S$600. Other plans set S$500, S$750 or S$800. One plan has no excess. One asks S$2,500. A premium only tells half the story, so read the excess beside it.

Two insurers on our panel have no online price for this model yet.

How each change moves the lowest price

  • No NCD (0%): S$1,046.39, S$303.49 more
  • 20% NCD: S$1,046.39, S$303.49 more
  • Driver aged 27, 3 years' driving, 30% NCD: S$1,046.39, S$303.49 more
  • Driver aged 65, 20 or more years' driving: S$742.90, the same
  • A new car, registered this year: S$764.82, S$21.92 more
  • A car 8 years old: S$666.79, S$76.11 less

Losing your NCD is the costliest change, at 41% more. A younger, less experienced driver lands at the same figure. The 8-year-old car costs less to insure than the 3-year-old one. That suits a used B180, though these are lowest prices only. Other plans may move by different amounts.

Six similar cars

The price page compares six cars of a similar engine size, for the same driver and car age:

The average of their lowest prices is S$724.93. The B180 is 2% above it. Four of the six cost less to insure. So for this driver, the B180 sits near the middle of the group. The Mercedes-Benz car insurance page lists the other models.

Before you buy a used B180

A few checks help with any used car:

  • Registration date: it sets the road tax surcharge and the COE years left.
  • Your NCD: it stays with you, so price the car with your own record.
  • The exact version: other B180s have other engines. Check the engine size on the log card, since it changes the road tax and may change the premium.

Costs that change with the owner

  • Parking: season parking where you live and work, plus parking elsewhere.
  • Petrol: distance travelled times the pump price.
  • ERP: set by where and when you drive.
  • Upkeep: servicing to the maker's schedule, plus tyres, brakes and a battery. An older car may need more, so ask for its records.
  • Depreciation: what you pay set against the COE years left and what the car fetches later.

The figures in one list

For the Mercedes-Benz B180 1,595cc:

  • Road tax: S$739.96 a year, before any age surcharge (LTA's formula, checked 2026-10-19)
  • Insurance, example driver: from S$742.90 a year (20 October 2026)
  • Insurance, no NCD: from S$1,046.39
  • Insurance, car 8 years old: from S$666.79

COE, for reference: S$130,001 (Category A) and S$130,100 (Category B) in the October 2026 1st round.
